As you all already know the fact accommodation office sent you e-mail about there is NO RE-NEW contact for people who finish their contact the end of this term. Because of big entry in September and there are not enough rooms for freshers.
I have no idea who could be responsible for this mess and therefore I don't know to who to refer to. The fact is that now there are around 200 students, living in the accomodation and they have been asked to move out after a short notice OF JUST A MONTH!! Yesterday (Thursday, 31st July) in Verney Park and today Hunter Street' Accomodations and Mitre with Bishops.
Accomodation Office says that there are about 200 freshers arriving this September. BUT HOW DO YOU GUARANTEE TO THOSE 200 NEW STUDENTS A ROOM WITHOUT HAVING IT!! IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM.. ITS YOUR OWN RULES' MISTAKE FROM THE POINT THAT YOU LET US STAY IN THE ACCOMODATION FOR MORE THAN A YEAR (UNLIKE OTHER UNIVERSITIES) AND ALLOW US TO RENEW OUR CONTRACTS.
They say there is no room to put the freshers in, but in fact it is more or less PREDICTABLE (HAVING ALL OUR DETAILS) WHO'S FINISHING AND MOVING OUT AND WHO IS NOT, SO YOU COULD INFORM THE STUDENTS-RESIDENTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AT LEAST 2-3 MONTHS BEFORE. IS THERE ANY OTHER REASON WHY STUDENTS HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED EARLIER?! YOU KNEW THERE WERE ONLY THE POSTGRADUATES FINISHING NOW END OF AUGUST AND AT THE OFFICE IVE BEEN TOLD THAT JUST 15 PEOLPE ARE MOVING OUT THE ACCOMODATION.. YOU KNEW THIS! THEY TOLD ME THAT ITS THEIR RIGHT TO GIVE A NOTICE 4-6 WEEKS BEFORE ..BUT NOT TO 200 PEOPLE WITHIN 2 DAYS! THIS IS PARANOID!
HAVE YOU IMAGINED WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN NOW? 150 PEOPLE ARE NOW ..THE SAME TIME AND WITH THE SAME INQUIRIES (CLOSED TO THE UNI CHEAP..etc) LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO STAY. When I checked it today there where not a lot to rent. And you KNOW how small buckingham is and how hard can be for someone to find a place, especially for just his or her studies ONLY!
*** THINK ABOUT THE STUDENTS THAT ARE FINISHING THIS DECEMBER 2008!!! EVEN MORE DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH ANY ESTATE FOR LESS THAN 6 MONTHS. AND YOU GIVE US A MONTH TO GO??!!
SHOULD I ALSO MENTION THOSE STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT AFFORT MOVING OUT?!
I was wondering is there any Japanese students who is having difficult as a such with this bloody accommodation matter.
Even though, I am not living in the University accommodation, I am very willing to help any Japanese students with this matter. Please do contact me ASAP. Thank you.
