The only way to express my hate for the situation is to just not see his movies (which aren't that good anyway).

The fact that he was quite drunk at the time will be viewed as a mitigating circumstance, as most people privately know they are not angels either.

Regarding free speech, yeah Slacker Ninja I totally agree with your critical listening thing, I think there's free speech as a private citizen - which should ofcourse be totally free.
Then there's the public space. I'd like to point out that Tom Cruise's last two films have been flops because of the fact that he's shown himself to be a total nutcase. He's managed to ruin two big buget films that already had a built in audience and everything in the world going for them. No one will touch him now...

technically, under free speech, nike and mac are free to say the things you think they are unable to. They might suffer fines from advertising regulatory agencies, etc. but they can do what they want.
the reason they don't is that people don't like that type of thing. the people they are trying to sell to won't go buy the products, and more than likely a lot of uppity folks would throw fits and demand the bad language advertising campaigns to stop.

hollywood can make any type of movie they want to. the only limiting factor is the money. a studio can put out the most hateful, racist, slandering movie ever made, but the MPAA will probably give them an NC-17, which will severely limit the amount of theaters it will show in since theater chains are free to choose their guidelines (such as not showing any NC-17 movies ever), and thus less people will see it (assuming there are people that even want to see it), and then the studio will suffer a loss of money. that's why fluffy stupid shit like every steve martin movie from the last 5 years gets made.
