I'll bet you'll never see Dr. Ikeda boasting about her wealth on TV again. What a moron. She boasts of a fat condo and lots of money. But she lives alone with her daughter. Not only that but her daughter is shown on TV. As a responsible parent you would never do that. "ooooh, I'm rich and live alone with another woman. I only have this Louis Vuitton bag to protect my from intruders."
In my industry, public displays of your wealth are frowned upon. Not that you can't buy that Ferrari, just don't announce it on TV and the world fuckin' country.
The nouveau riche in Japan, are not good at being rich. They are too public about their wealth and like to flaunt it. Ikeda: daughter kidnapped (albeit by idiots) Horie: jail time. probable more jail time Murakami: kicked out of own fund and probable jail time.
When you flaunt your wealth, you will get kicked in the face. My advice to all the rich out there: be a bit more discreet with your money. Buy stuff, don't tell the world about it, and moer importantly, don't show them where you live.
Once again. the Japanese nouveau riche don't know how to be rich.
If you have the money, I guess throwing away clothes is fine. Don't go announcing it though. Makes you looks tupid.
I wonder what she does if she finds something she likes? Buys like a thousand black t-shirts?
I agree that flaunting your wealth is not a good idea.
However, there are also people who seem to enjoy poking their noses into the lives of the rich and are somehow entertained by the idea of someone owning a hundred Louis Vuitton handbags or being able to drink a glass of fine wine and discarding the rest or owning a bathtub made out of pure gold.
Everytime you turn the TV on (in North America or Japan) there's bound to be a show on where it would have fancy panning shots of a luxury condo suite and then a caption would appear indicating however Gazillion yen/dollar it cost in all its sparkling font glory. If that weren't enough, the proud owner would guide you (the camera in the first person point of view) around the house showing off various exotic items with their own sparkling rediculous price caption. Sooner or later a walk-in closet is opened to reveal how many <insert brand name item here> he/she owns.
Sorry for rambling but I'm a little tired of this genre of shows :)
The American nouveau riche don't know how to be rich, either.
It's considered rude and low class to show your money. And buying ferraris, fancy clothes, etc. is "showing your money" so to speak.
I don't know about Japan, but in the US -- many times the Old Rich will not accept the Nouveau Riche, because the NR are idiots.

Re: Kanou Kyoko --
This page has pictures of celebrities of when they were kids, and Ms Kano is on there, and she looks pretty feminine to me. She's not a man, she's just ugly.

Check out Morning Musume's Ishikawa Rika -- she looks like some weird alien child, a far cry from what she looks like in this pic:

Although, her facial expression looks like she just let out a really big fart, and doesn't want anyone to know, so she's trying to cover it up by looking sexy.

Interesting to see how some celebrities actually looked like themselves when they were younger.
I've only seen pics where at some point in time between the present and the moment the picture was taken there was some kind of total face replacement surgery :)
新生マーキー,
I'm sure Dr. Ikeda and her daughter have gotten plastic surgery will all their billions of yen. There! I put it back on topic! :-D
I did notice that some actually did look like themselves, while others look completely different. I have no idea who some of those people on that list are, though.
I wonder why whomever compiled the list used so many Morning Musume members/former members? Maybe either it was all they could find, or they weren't too familiar with Japanese entertainers, or they had a Morning Musume fetish.

LOL. It's amazing how some people completely change from childhood to adult. Some for the better, some for the worst. I went to my 15th high school reunion not too long ago, and it was interesting to see how much many people had changed, me included.
It's like the news here. For months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months all we heard about was the stupid Michael Jackson trial, and the Robert Blake trial. When that was over, I think the newscasters didn't know what to do with themselves, because nothing scandalous was going on. Until some guy crashed a rare Ferrari that he had brought into the US illegally, and that he hadn't made any payments on in a long time, so it was actually repossessed by the bank but they couldn't locate it. Until it ended up in pieces all over a road in Orange County, California because he was driving it 140 MPH.
I wonder what would happen to a person who had a lot of plastic surgery done was in a car accident. Would they just shatter into a million pieces? :-P Just kidding.
I actually enjoyed that kidnapping...when I first saw the footage of the two outide the police station, and the mum goes
"(nantoka)chan kowakatta deshou"
and the daughter (can't remember her name) goes
"un"
...that was so wooden I didn't realise it was a proper news show. I should say I'm happy the daughter came home safe etc, but I think if we're all honest, no-one really gives a shit.
I'm more concerned for the high school girls that get kidnapped walking home, and are subjected to all sorts of fucking hideous sexual shit by men. Passed around between friends, and then they just kill them when they get bored of sticking ribovitamin D bottles in them....fucking sick bastards.
Anyway I think the noveau riche are tacky in any culture, that's why they're the noveau riche!
Personally, I like them - show us all your money, and your clumsy fashion sense to remind us lamen how lucky we are to have to choose our purchases wisely...
I don't know a lot about the Murakami story but he was a bit unlucky I think....seems like the new breed of Japanese investor who acutally considers the stock-holders the owners of companies, rather than the board etc, get kicked in ass for trying to make some money no holds barred.
Don't know much about Horie either, just he was on a menu in a yakiniku restaurant I went to last week....a picture and caption endorsing the establishment....I thought
"you're a fat fucker...and pretty ugly too, what was Nishimura Miho thinking about with fat sweaty you on top of her?...." etc
Absolutely, it's not Horie I can't understand, it's an ex-Miss Japan whoring herself for the money...or rather how she could do it....I wanna be rich just as much the next guy, but, I'd draw the line at sucking Horie's dick for it.... :D
