The trial is on live now and Saddam is claiming that he had the right to do all the things he did because he was President of Iraq at the time and the laws of his government allowed for his actions. He`s is saying there were no crimes against humanity and that he was only exercising his right as president to punish the people that tried to assassinate him. Just as any other president of any other country would do. They may be making a mistake allowing him to make points that some may think are not totally wrong. What do you think?

It was wrong in the first place to remove him from power.
Who gave the Americans the right to intervene?
Western ideals and Middle Eastern ideals don't mix.
Why can't they leave each other alone?
To rephrase what Sergio said, it was definitely wrong to let the U.S. dethrone Saddam. No matter how high the motive may have been (and it wasn't!) the U.S. should have respected the soverenty (sp?) of Iraq.

Living in the U.S., I often find myself falling in the trap of thinking of everything from the American point of view. War on Terrorism is a typical topic where it happens very easily.
I totally agree, but I wish someone would remove Bush and put HIM on trial, too...
I don't think it's a good idea to discuss politics on here... just my two cents.
If you guys are into comics only a little, I reccommend checking out issue 9 of Ultimates vol 2. It deals with a cold idea of a foreign group of Avengers (run by an Iraq verison of Capt. America...) over throwing the US. All in the name of liberation!

Just to point that out and the scene with "The Liberators" pulling the statue of Liberty down (i.e. Saddam's statue) is priceless!
Larry,

Yeah, politics is a pretty tricky thing to discuss in public forums. For this one, it's relatively easy to stay away since you can tell just by the subject line. :)
I think it fine to discuss politics on an open forum. We need to know how the average person feels and not only what we are told is popular belief from the news. This is the only way. Freedom of speech! I agree that the US needs to let other countries workout their own problems. But 9/11 demanded that someone gets their ass kicked. They could`t catch Bin Ladin so Hussain had to do. Plus how do you ignore all the Iraqs that were asking for US or UN intervention. But I think the US should have learned a lessen from the election the Hamas government won. Hey if thats what they want let them have it. All we need to do is get off the oil tip and go ethenol. We can`t stop other countries from destroying themselves if that is what they want to do. Its their choice. But be ready to take all the refugees that don`t agree with the majority. See thats a problem too.
Attacking the enemy before being attacked makes sense.
President Bush got a point here.

But was Iraq capable of attacking the US?

Especially after being disarmed...hmmm
I think it's all very well debating this and debating that. But the trouble I think, is that America, Britain, etc are at a point of no return, It doesn't matter who started what and when.

The fact is that every powerful nation has to concern itself with giving the very visible impression that it won't tolerate terrorism. You can't please all the people all the time or whatever. So the problem will be that people will call out for a resolution to terrorism within their own countries. And no matter what action is taken, there will always be an outcry against it. So basically a correct decision can never be made, Of course some of these actions are very questionable, but that's just the way the cookie gets stomped on!

That's essentially it, trying to please as many people as possible regardless of the decision, and to stay in power as long as possible based on those decisions. Please the patriots by whatever means necessary, or by giving the best excuse possible (it's for our freedom, for our children, etc).

Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but it's not going to end any time soon.
