I got this mail from my good friend.
Gas price is raising everyday!!
I hope people read this and try it.

FB..."Okie Mok'e" writes:

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
>>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.50 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I think it's another dumb email chain letter. And its ideas have already been pretty easily refuted: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/12452503/

Read to the end; it talks about both of these stupid boycott ideas and why they will have exactly the opposite effect as intended. People need to use their heads.
Without reading Jeff's link, I can easily see how this boycott tactic will not work. The gas price is determined by the overall demand. More and more people have to stop driving and consider alternative means of transportation in order for the gas price to go down. Besides, there are only a few oil companies controlling many more gasoline brands. You can't boycott Shell just by not going to the Shell stations.
だいはど: That's basically it. You boycott one company and that demand just slides onto another - which drives *up* prices because there's less competition and higher demand on fewer companies.

The only solution is to get people to stop driving. A boycott of one company does not achieve that.

And by the way, we are still paying less than people in most industrialized countries. But we are getting less for our dollars - the high prices in most countries come from taxes. Our dollars just go into the pockets of the corporations; at least in other countries, those high prices are paying for something. If I'm going to pay $3.50 per gallon anyway (as I am in NYC), I'd rather that money go to funding schools or something than funding some oil company CEO's paycheck.
Couldn't agree more, Jeff. I for one wouldn't mind paying taxes if the money is spent on something worthwhile, such as health-care, education and public transportation. It just angers me to think for a second that the top bananas of the oil companies are probably laughing out loud right at this moment.
I don't really like Big company anyway,
So I thought this is fun, but I guess not...
I'd rather not drive. I hate driving!!
But in this country I cannot go anywhere without driving.
Gas price are killing poor person like me...
Why can't I have a hope someday somehow price drop down.
ジュリアン,

You obviously missed my point. I am not whining simply because the gas is getting expensive; I am complaining because the surcharge only helps make the top management of those oil companies become richer. If I had to pay $4 a gallon (which, btw, is 3.78 litres - U.S. gallon is not the same as the imperial gallon) due to higher taxes, I'd be much happier.

And you guys in Europe drive much smaller cars because of what? More environmental concerns? (You don't need to answer the question. I know the answer.)
Carpool may be a good alternative to some people, but that won't work for everyone. If nothing else, carpooling will take flexibility away from your daily commute. That may not be a big deal in cities like Tokyo, where you can go everywhere by bus and train, but most places in the U.S. don't have that kind of luxury.

I did think seriously about taking the bus to work. I decided against it, because (1) it would not reduce the cost of daily commute by much, and (2) the inconvenience incurred by taking the bus would far outweigh the little financial benefit it woul give me.

You may say we have to think about environment. True, but idealism won't get you too far. :*(
thinking about the environment isnt idealism. its survival

you wont be able to drive your great car with all its flexibility if there's no fresh air to breathe or clean water to drink, which would also mean no animals and plants to eat.

sure, it probably wont affect you to much, so if you're selfish dont worry. you'll be able to live for your several more decades without that much trouble. you may die younger than you would otherwise with a clean environment, but you wont notice anyway.

but how about thinking about the future of your species.
'Poor poor american people with their supercharged 7.5L V8 trucks who face a 4$ gal...
Damn.

Americans who whine about how expensive the gas could become are nothing but spoiled children to me. '

Nice way to generalize.

I'm an American, I drive a 4 cylinder car and I leave it parked in my driveway except on weekends (it's 8 months old and has 1,750 miles on it). During the week, I walk to the train station and take the train to work, just like approximately 15 million other people in the NYC area.

So do I now meet with your approval?

A little word of advice: don't assume stuff about people in countries that you don't know anything about. Otherwise, I've got PLENTY to say about Europe, if you want to take this discussion in that direction.

I'm in a bad mood today.
Poor guys...u know how much is gas in Europe?????Men, in Spain they say we have the cheapest prices in Europe, and i always have to pay like 1.1 euro / PER LITER!!!!
The hell w/ gas companies!
Fortunately i discovered segways...FUCK GAS!
aside from all the Gas stuff........

are there even 300 million English speaking adults who drive cars and have access to e-mail accounts?

and the guy said

"Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.) "

YOU SUCK!
p/s saw this today...

>> sure, it probably wont affect you to much,
>> so if you're selfish dont worry.

Shout it out as loud as you want if you just want to label us as such and be done with it. If you want us to change for the better, your method will not work.

Seattle is a pretty big city by the U.S. standard. It's got public bus services that cover a pretty wide area. It's still awfully inconvenient for me, for instance, to go to work by bus. Where it takes me 30-40 minutes to drive to work, it would be two hours if I take the bus. Yeah, call me selfish, but I will not sacrifice more than two hours a day just to be called altruistic.
I just eat a lot of baked beans and put my butt to the gas tank opening. I get plenty of gas that way. :-P
