Hi guys and Happy New Year! I'd like to ask you the natives here how to ask feelings of the past. Normally "How are you" is the typical way though, when it comes to the past emotions, is that correct to say "How were you?"
For example:
a: How was your math test? b: It was good. a: And how were you? b: I was so happy!!
I thought we can grammatically apply "how were you?" in this way but I'm not sure.
>a: How was your math test?
>b: It was good.
>a: And how were you?
>b: I was so happy!!
You wouldn't ask "And how were you?" but instead "how did that make you feel?"
But it sounds like you're sitting in a psychiatrist's couch and the person would be waiting for the next line "tell me about your mother".
To get more of an answer, you'd could just go with what Ian said.
