I have heard this story from my teacher. He is a great person.
A high school student failed in a test of Japanese, and so he stood at danger of withdrawal. His teacher said to him,“Read a short Japanese novel everyday, and write sentences of impression everyday.”
It continued during one week, and then the student was absorbed in reading Japanese novels. The teacher said,“Can you understand that Japanese novels are very interesting?”
The teacher had the student's sentences of impression, and visited a headteacher. The teacher said,“This student studied Japanese very hard. Please cancel his withdrawal.”
After that the student liked Japanese, and he became a teacher of Japanese in junior high school after graduation of a college.
Thank you for your message.
I think that this story is not true.
Maybe it is a kind of allegory.
We all have both bad points and good points.
But who decides or thinks that they are bad points
or good points?
Buddhism says,“煩悩即菩提”, that is,
worldly desires (煩悩)and enlightenment (菩提、悟り)
are same ultimately.
In this story the student's bad points opened up
a new vista of the future.
