He's being silly. You don't want to meet chikan.
Touristy stuff, it depends on what you like. I think
Asakusa is a place you should go to in Tokyo. If
you want a real Japanese experience, try to catch
a train on the Yamanote line at 7.00am.
Kamakura is quite close to Tokyo, and I think it's
worth the trip.
I like Tokyo, but it's a bit like a lot of cities around
the world. Lots of cement, lots people. Kyoto is
much more beautiful in my opinion, but people in
Kyoto can be a bit snobbish towards outsiders.
wow...

great ideas !!

Thaks a lot.

I'll go out with my swedish friend next Thursday.

can't wait !!

but still i wanna know any information !!
I like GINZA walking.

Because, ...because........becau.....................

... there is no reason.

I think GINZA is a mature town.
Ian: I disagree! I think Chikan is a really Japanese thing :D
You're not wrong, such wierdos surely exist in all countries, but I think its unusually common in Japan.

My friends were so interested when I told them about ladies only carriage on the train!

The interesting point for me is not the carriage, but the fact its deemed necessary. In the UK if some guy gropes a lady on the train 9/10 she says something and people will help her. But it's far more complicated in Japan.

To me, it says something about people not wanting to make a scene, attitudes towards embarassment, interaction between strangers and a difference in the way of thinking.

And THAT is what is interesting, to me, at least. A lot more than a temple.

I'm not trying to slag off Japan, or Japanese people, I love this country and its people (some exceptions). But this dark point exists, so I'm talking about it.
Bit OT, sorry!
Hmmm... something really Japanese in Tokyo?
Then I recommend the Tokyo 9 gardens, especially Rikugien, Hamarikyu or Koishikawa Korakuen for this season.
They are old daimyo gardens run by the Tokyo government, which used to be owned by historically noted people like Tokugawa's or Iwasaki's (Mitsubisi family) in the past.

The trees and flowers turn particularly scenic in Spring or Autumn and overhanging cherry blossoms would be the best thing to see in this season. (hope they didn't get all blown away by the violent wind this weekend!)

Oh, and don't forget to bring some bread crumbs for ducks and carps in the pond!

For more pics, you'll find lots if you google the image tab with the keywords like "六義園" or "小石川後楽園".
@THE WORLD!!
Now here is a guy i'd like to not hang out with.
Who recommends going to check out homosexuals?! You lost my interest on that recommendation.
Making pottery OK fine. Visiting Takao-san and just going hiking yeah that's OK. Visiting old ppl. No way!
Harajuku is OK for five minutes.

Tsukiji, Asakusa. I'll pass on that too. If you've seen one cathedral you've seen them all.

Lets face it Tokyo is concrete jungle. The only thing worth learning about is the people. For that i recommend just talking to people on the streets, go to parties, clubbing.

The tourist places are way way over rated. Asakusa is third world. If you like Tsukiji you can also visit chicken processing in Thailand and cattle processing in Australia and the US. Fun fun fun!

Or maybe go to a war zone and shot a few people. That's something you can write to your kids about!
Thank u all made comments.

My friend and I met @ Ueno paqk and cought up us for a whiel 'cause we have 4 years gap between us.

Then Ame-yoko, asakusa, Tokyo st. and Ueno again.

anyway we enjoyed Tokyo.

Thank u, again.
>>but I think its unusually common in Japan.

I think a lot of it has to do with the proximity and very small "personal
space" in Japan, especially in cities. In the US, you're never in a situation
where you're pushed up against a stranger like on a train.

So I think it "seems" common because the opportunity is there.
I have never been there i wish i could go and visit around one day
Skip Tokyo and go to real Japan. Kyoto or Nara. 富士山 <--- or Fujisan
If you're interested in real Japanese type places in Tokyo and also jazz, check out: http://www.tokyojazzsite.com
There's a tour too.
