I've searched though George Clooney's and U2's and Jay-Z's communities on mixi. Nobody's talking about coming Friday's historical event?! No announcement on TV either. Have nothing to comment on the most widely distributed telethon program in human history?. Are we the most apathetic nation in the world or what?

Jay-Who? And what is telethon? Is even giving for those in need now not enough, do you need some celeb to do whats right?
How is it apathetic when one is not in the hype of celebs promoting something. Just give to the Red Cross or Médecins sans frontières... I'm sure the Haitians will be grateful even if you are not all over Clooney while giving aid.

nothing against giving to...MTV? to help people in need, but only because people are not interested in some tele-thong doesnt mean that they are "the most apathetic nation". If there is very very few help from japan from all sources, then yes... I would understand the accussation. But only because MTV is not announced?

I've read the news that Rihanna is going to cover smoeone's song and sell it on iTunes store in the limited period and the proceeds goes for the Haiti relief founds or something.
What they are going to do has motivated people to raise funds or to somehow do for Haitian people. I guess what is important is not what they are going to perform in a charity live but it can make many people think about it.

I woke up this morning and turned on TV, not expecting this telethon,
but it was a nice surprise. I only watched about 8 performers because
I was busy. Sting was great. He played a The Police song called “Driven
To Tears” (I think) and it had a whole different arrangement, jazzier
than The Police. And the lyrics of the song matched the situation.
Stevie Wonder was as always amazing and Springsteen was alright.
There was this Haitian band with lots of percussion and their performance
was something else. It was very touching.
So I enjoyed watching it. I have already donated to Red Cross about a week
ago and I didn’t participate this time. But it is always good to raise
money for those in need in any ways. I heard the donation for Haiti
was just record breaking high several days ago.
CNN (and other American media, I think) had a wide coverage of this
disaster, so it got so many people’s attention. Also the internet helped
a lot. There are lot of people donating for the first time.
I am hoping that this legacy will continue and keep happening. Just
2 years ago, there was China Sichuan earthquake which claimed 90,000
lives and there was no telethon like this, or Asian Tsunami which killed
more than 200,000…

matter where it happens.
