Hey all. I just came back from a 3 day stay (I know, short) in Tokyo. I feel as if my holiday isn't finished as there was so much that I've missed out on.
So, I'm planning on going back to Tokyo (or perhaps Osaka, not sure) around the end of February (good time?).
However, last time I went with a few friends, and our accommodation and all the like was arranged by my friend whom is Japanese. However, this time I would be traveling by myself. I'm self-funding this trip of mine and I've heard how expensive accommodation in Tokyo can be. However, I don't exactly wish to share a bedroom. I'd be staying for about a week or so, depending on costs.
So, does anyone know a good estimate for lower-ended single room prices? It doesn't have to be in the center of the city, but relatively convenient (I stayed in Ginza last week, quite expensive, but good place for a first trip!)
Also, I'd like to meet a lot of Japanese who are interested in foreign cultures. In my short stay, I met some lovely Japanese here and there, but it was so difficult for me to communicate with them due to my less than limited (I can get by a bit, but no expert!) and their English. So I was wondering if anyone would happen to know of any ideas where I might be able to go to meet these people? One of the main reasons I'm going back to Japan is because how much I loved the warm hospitality by its people.
I know I'm asking for quite a fair bit and I am sorry for that, however I do appreciate any assistance/recommendations.
Oh yeah, one last note. I heard that Tokyo would be getting more pricey after winter due to the spring festivals and the like, and of course Dec/Jan is expensive as it's Christmas peak, so would February/March be a good idea for a budgeted holiday maker?
I was in Tokyo on September for two weeks.Actually It was business trip.
I staied three different hotels in Tokyo.
First three days,I staied in SUIDOUBASHI -TOKYO GREEN HOTEL.I liked it.It was clean, comfortabel and also near the station.I paid 8.100 en for per night. (It is about $90)

Second hotel was Ariake Washington Hotel.
Ariake Washington Hotel is far from city centre so, I dont recommend you to stay there. You can choose another place. It was 11.000en per night.($110)
Shinjuku Washinton Hotel

This hotel was also good.It was near the Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown.
If you go to Japan on winter,The prices can be low.
Hi! Please keep on checking www.tokyonoticeboard.co.jp u might find a good hotel/hostel. They r guest houses with private rooms like sakura house/fontana/greencourttokyo. I can't recommended a particular hotel, but I can recommend a restaurant where u can enjoy cheap Nepali food (sorry- out of Topic) Actually- its owned by me.
Feb isnt summer, its still winter, so dont forget to bring ur warm clothes if comin in Feb
Summer is a nice season, however its humid and terrible. Lot of festivals and fireworks. Sept (when the temp lowers) and April (the best season for viewing cherries) are recommended
Search for "ryoukan" or "hostel" near Asakusa. I remember there being a couple cheap places around there. Don't expect anything great. The "ryoukan" I stayed at was pretty dingy and had piles and piles of porno mags on a shelf under the front counter. But hey, good location and nice price.
I've heard "tube hotel" is cheap and most of tourists from overseas stay there. Since I've never stayed at the hotel, I don't know it is comfortable or not...but if your country doesn' have it, I recommend you to stay there! You can have experience whether it is rightly or wrongly :-)
Check out the site
You can find various reasonable hotels;

Toyoko Inn

I think Tokyo is expensive all the seasons... Price won't be so different, esp these "business hotel". In fact February is difficult to book because a lot of students come to Tokyo and stay these reasonable hotels to take entrance exams of universities. I once had a big trouble and had to go to Yokohama. I personally recommend April, cherry blossom season.
Obviously prices remain mostly fixed. But there seems to be far less foreign tourists in central Tokyo around this time of year (November to February). maybe just my opinion though. Obviously there is a small mild panic around new year as many of the hotels are sold out etc.
I think some guest houses have a minimum of one month though, but I would recommended you to stay here at least one month in order to experience Tokyo.
I also keep getting invited to these 'international' event things in Shinjuku and Shibuya but I am never interested in those type of events. Mostly because I prefer speaking Japanese than English to Japanese people and have zero interest in promulgating my country (lol). I am sure they advertise such events in metropolis though.
