One young lady came to my medical clinic. Her mother came
together, and they came into my examination room.
The young lady was nineteen years old, and she was
a college student.

She had a high fever and a cough. I said,“It is better
that you are put on a drip of antibiotics.”
Then she shouted,“I hate to be put on a drip!”
She was a college student!
And then her mother said,“Her appetite is now good,
and so a drip is not necessary.”
Is this mother a doctor?

I said,“It is a drip of antibiotics, not for nutrition.”
This young lady is a child, and her mother has permitted
that her daughter is wayward.
It's said that children grow, and they always watch the back
of their parents.

Japanese parents tend to take care of their children
excessively. All members of a family are the labor force
in a rice crop.
It's a Japanese tradition, and maybe it's same thing
in other Asian countries.

Of course now many Japanese people live in cities,
and they have each families. But I think that
many Japanese people even now have the tradition of
a rice crop in their mind, that is, parents and children
depend on each other.

It's not so bad thing, but children will be adults someday,
and parents should not disturb their children's growth.

I think you are right, but some Japanese children are very independet. My friends went to abroad by herself at the point of money.A high school student took care of her family, studied and went to college.
Overprotection is diffrent from love of parents,I think. It's important for children to try to be independent.

I also need to be independent!
Thank you for chance to try to think so!
i think so.
but i feel it's tend to exist a lot of recent children and parents.

parents' love is essential for all children.
but some parents is misunderstanding meaning of "love"

OH YEAH! I am always surprised when I see 6 year olds alone even during the day. Even just walking home from school!
Many of the rich families are like that
no matter what nationalities they are.
Why the hell would you put her on ANTIBIOTICS!!! unless you knew that she needed antibiotics??? You are committing malpractice, potentially harming the environment by overuse of antibiotics, and inconveniencing the patient. If the patient had a virus, what use would ANTIBIOTICS have???

I think that your opinion is very important, and this problem
is difficult. I think that in Japan, many doctors tend to
use antibiotics easily except bacterial infection.

There are some problems if antibiotics are used for a long time.
One is tolerance, that is, some antibiotics will be not
effective for bacterial infection in the future, and in some
patients, necessary bacteria in their small intestines will die.

Another problem is entero-colitis due to antibiotics.
It should be avoided that antibiotics are used for a long time.
Common cold or influenza are viral infection, and so
theoretically antibiotics are not effective.

But I think that many patients have bacterial infection
at the same time, because bronchial tubes become rough
due to viral infection.

In that situation it's easy that patients have bacterial
infection with virus, and so I think that it's better
to use antibiotics for three or five days.
In practice antibiotics are useful for patients of
common cold or influenza.
