Hi people!

A friend of mine has come to Japan to visit me, and he wants to go to Tokyo!

But I don't know it very well, having just been there once.

Could you guys tell me some fun places to go? He wants to see interesting things, so of course we're going to go to Akihabara and Shibuya, but I don't know where else is good! Help please!

And as an after thought, please tell me where some good night spots are! I wanna show him Tokyo's nightlife, and I'd also like to experience it myself!

We will be arriving on the 6th of November (Friday night) and leaving on Sunday.

Thanks in advance.

Hi J美-.

When I was a guido at Shibuya for non-japanese but volunteer,
I usually take them to "Meiji-Shrine", then NHK, then Harajuku's some shops,
finally, to a shop which name is "oriental bazaar" (sorry don't know spelling).
at the oriental bazzar, we can buy things looks like oriental even old type Japanese...

but not much "intresting", I think.

what kind of "interesting", do you and your friends want to?
It depends on what your friend likes.
Maybe you can ask what he is interested in.
What kind of music does he like?
Hip-hop? Trance? Rock? Everything?
If you know that, then it can help you with the sort of night life places to go.

If you search the internet you may be able to find some good clubs, or ask the locals!

I usually take friends to Yokohama because there are open spaces & things to do beside shopping.
Take the train ti Sakarakicho (?) & do the walk along the harbor side to Chinatown.
わかさんへ: Thanks for your advice, it sounds good.

あかねさんとアホのアホな嫁さんへ: Yeah we might give Roppongi a look, but we are just looking to have fun, not so much meet skanky girls, which is what I've heard Roppongi is well known for.

ルーカスさんへ: For a club, maybe Hip Hop/Rock is ok. But it doesn't have to be a club, just a bar which is busy is fine too :D

Kuriさんへ:Ah, it's a good idea, thanks!

Alvin Hearnさんへ:Thanks, I'll check it out.

When I have a foreign guest, I go to Asakusa to see more Japanese traditional culture. If you have time, Kamakura is also nice to visit. There are many temples with beautiful gardens. Nikko is a bit far but it is worth visiting too.
If you would like to see night view, go to Tokyo Metropolitan government office (東京都庁)in Shinjuku. You can enjoy beautiful view for free while in Roppongi Hills, you have to pay a lot. Odaiaba is also nice to see night view and there are many restrants, shops and a huge game archade. I also think Tokyo Tower in the evening is very beautiful. (you do not have to go up but you can walk around...)
Hope you and your friends have a great time here.
Akihabara is not really all that interesting unless you really love
electronics. You could get most of the stuff you'd find in Akihabara
at any Bic Kamera. The best thing in Akihabara IMO is a little shop
that specializes in those capsules you get from coin machines.....
some very cool stuff there.
I think Asakusa is kind of cool in a touristy sort of way....not really
in Tokyo but just a short trip by Shinkansen, Kamakura is a must
see place for tourists.
What about Asakusa area ?
or Tokyo-tower ? (←near Roppongi too)
or
Edo-museum in Ryogoku.

Ebisu might be a good place. There used to be a good night club called "MILK". I don't know if it's still there though... sorry. There is a British pub in the same building called "What the Dickens", where you might be able to meet interesting people from all over the world.

Ebisu is not as tacky as Roppongi.

There must be lots of decent night clubs in the Azabu, Aoyama and Omotesando areas. But my infomation is old. I would go clubbing about 10 years ago... But I don't think these places haven't changed a lot.
Sorry, Milk was closed 2 years ago, it seems... What a shame!

Anyway, good luck and have fun!
Thanks very much for all the information and links. They're all appreciated. Does Tokyo have any kind of international parties or events?

I know that such places can be good for making friends or at the very least, drinking buddies. And because my friend speaks next to no Japanese, meeting people who can speak even a bit of English would be nice for him, I think.
Clubbing:
Ageha (in freakin' middle of nowhere, but ext. cool)
Womb (Shibuya, as featured in the film Babel)

Shrines:
Yasukuni Shrine in Kudanshita

Curios:
Kiddyland in Omotesando
Everyone loves it.

Also try to swim in the moat of the Imperial Palace. lol
If you and your friend like rollercoasters you should go to the Tokyo-Dome-City-Attractions :)
After 4pm or 5pm you can get a "night-passport" for just 3000 yen each person.
After Sightseeing its a really nice way to finish the day with alot of adrenalin ;')

Wheres the Gundam!? That will be worth a look if only for a photo 指でOK
Odaiba, perhaps?
Good view, amusements, and a restaurant complex.
