I recently moved to Japan for a year, and I live near Osaka.
Unfortunately I don't have so many friends here yet! Could you guys recommend me some places to go where I can have fun and maybe meet some new people?
I like to go clubs as well, but don't know where any nice ones are! In fact i'm pretty clueless about everything. So far my Osaka experience has been aimlessly wondering around NAMBA on my own. It's kind of lonely! So if anyone has any tips please tell me!
The Japanese only rule is alive and well in Osakas club districts so good luck. I have always
had problems in Osaka. You better join some sort of free class, Judo, Flower arrangement, birdwatching, Japanese language etc... to help brake the ice with people.
Fair enough - eikaiwa are the pits (I know 'cause I have worked for two...)
There are still some options - (I met great people this way):
- your local ward/city should run free Japanese classes;
- your embassy or diplomatic mission might hold social events; and
- try joining a gym or club (I was part of a mountaineering club).
No shrugging needed, i'm not looking down on your advice, thanks for all tips from everyone im reading them all! :)
Actually im a pretty friendly person myself and given a situation where i'm in contact with people I find it easy to make friends with them, but at the moment I have none of those!
We should definitely get together the next time I'm back in Japan. I am from Kobe, and that's where I spend most of my time when I go to Japan. Osaka is only 20 minutes away. :-)
Hello!
I was living in Osaka until this year and I love it much!
For me, best place for eating is in Dotonbori area.
For shopping and lives, Shinsaibasi and Amerika Mura~
I have never been but I hear about language exchange cafes?
Hi!!
Finally...you came to Japan?!?!
Oh!!!
Welcome, welcome!!
So, you deicded to come to Osaka!!
Good!!
I don't live in Osaka, but many pleople say everyone likes Osaka!!
That's beacuse westerners of Japan really like Osaka!!
One of my friends is now saying " I want to move to Osaka...!!"
Osaka people are very friendly, so I'm sure you'll soon make lots of new interesting friends!!
Yes, when you find your students, you can be also friends and your students would bring more friends, too.
How about belonging to a mixi Osaka community??
Good luck!!
Have a good time in Japan!!

This is a good friend of mine's club/cafe. He is good people (although he can come off as arrogant its just the French in him hahaha) and tell him DJThom sent you there and he will treat you right.
It's a chill space during the day and a cool place to get a drink at night.
I agree with MJ Kobe about PURE.
If your turn down Soumoncho from Shinsaibashi, it is just after the Karaoke on your left.
Thurs - Reggae
Fri & Sat - Hiphop, R&B.
Lot's of international people and all you can drink!!! people tend to get very friendly in there by the end of the night... :)
Maybe we'll see you in there!!
I've been in Osaka a long time, so let me know if you have any questions.
Hello! Welcome to Kansai!!
I live in Kobe and sometimes go to Osaka.
I have some friends in Osaka who can speak English.
Let's get together, if you want to My friends know nice clubs in Osaka I think.
Osaka and Kobe is not so far, so you can visit Kobe
I love Osaka; people seemed to be pretty friendly in all the little pub/clubs
about the Dōtonbori or in little Triangle park in Amerikamura always have funny/cool people to talk to!
Hi! I'm actually manage an English school in front of Izumisano staion of NANKAI LINE. I know Namba is a good place but Izumisano is also good, because not so crowded and there are some terrific bars! :D

http://www.kansaiscene.com/2004_04/html/drink.shtml One specific amazing place for people to meet everyone who works there speaks English and Japanese. Great atmosphere and great drinks hehe
try these places~ I always go here when I want to get out and meet friends when I am in Osaka ^^
I met tons of people when I was in Japan. I found the easiest way to meet people is to be a lost tourist. Thats what I was, since I can't read kanji. I made quite a few friend just asking for directions.
I don't know how receptive Japanese are of people from the UK, but it seemed that everyone wanted to meet me, especially when they found out I was from the US. Maybe you should pretend your from the USA.. Haha..
Personally, I would avoid clubs such as Pure and the Sam and Daves'. If your goal is to assimilate into Japanese culture, then try to ease off on going to places where it is going to be mostly gaijin and a few rather unnatractive Japanese girls.
Here are a few of the places I would recommend:
Joule (gyaru paradise)
Grand Cafe
Onzieme (still have gaijin come here in decent amounts but tons of Japanese as well including lots of cuties)
N3 (small but free for foreigners)
Union - very japanese house club
dragonfly cafe - one of the only none smoking bar/club of Shinsaibashi
System - very underground club in Umeda
Zion - very cool regge bar in shinsaibashi, the owner is from Senegal.
