I have some friends who were born and bred in the States, but their parents hadn't been American.
They are called Japanese American, Chinese American, Vietnamese American and so on...
One of the friends, she is Vietnamese American working in Japan now, said 'if you live in the States for a very long time, you'll be americanised, not only mindset or something like spiritual but also your face.' And she added, 'That's because you'll be americanized.'
When I heard that, I felt a bit scared. Living in a different country can change your face without having plastic surgery... It's kinda mysterious.
I can agree that attitudes can change, and that you
would become part of the new countries culture, but I
don't think the way you look could change.
Even attitudes and culture may be more than could
change in one lifetime - these may take being born
there. For example, I don't care how long I lived in
Japan, I would never fully become Japanese in attitude
or culture, let alone even start looking Japanese.
Well I think it is pretty easy to be Americanized. Even your style of clothes will change when you spend a significant period of time overseas.

That is very true. Sometimes I wish Japan wasn't as homogenous. I am half, and look white so to some I will always be considered a 'gaijin' in spite of the fact that I have a Japanese name, am fluent in Japanese ect.
