and or those who sent in absentee ballots and voted bush. please tell me why you voted for bush.
also, how do you feel about the president. vice president, and some memebers of the administration you voted for raking in money from the gas money that comes out of your pockets? just curious.
wow! I'll bet yours beats Dancest☆r's then?? I find it a bit funny that DanceSt☆r thinks he/she/it is 'more qualified' than any of us...well specifically you since I think I recall you mentioned somewhere you're working in the financial sector...
Anyway I'm going to boast real quick here, I was interested in Cal Tech and M.I.T because I went to U.M.I.S.T (in Manchester, England) the predecessor of them both. U.M.I.S.T is in the top five UK Unis most years, but I think those rankings suck. I want to boast about U.M.I.S.T because it was where the FIRST COMPUTER EVER was thought up designed and built by Alan Turing. So I'll just say 'thanks' on behalf of all MIXI users to my Uni, and A.T for that.
Any engineers will know U.M.I.S.T because it's where most of the fundamental theories of engineering were born...suck on that Imperial College, Oxford, and Cambridge....
Anyway U.M.I.S.T is big chums with M.I.T so I was a bit bummed to see Cal Tech beating them in the race, sorry rankings...
good morning,
er...I think your list was titled 'national universities' wasn't it, 'national' referring to American. The US. Stateside. Across the pond. etc. I'm having trouble understanding how my Uni could make the list. Being it's in a different country and all that. Furthermore I said I think those kind of lists suck - so feel free to infer that I don't really care much about wether U.M.I.S.T beats Cal Tech and M.I.T or not.
There, I'd mooted my own point before you said, that I said, that I even made one worth mooting. Moothead...
"moo"
etc
Yes I'd agree that the President plays a key role in the US economy. But it's no secret the markets pay more attention to A.G's interest rate announcements, than the President's addresses about where he sees the economy going...I'd analogize and say the President is like a ship's navigator, and Alan Greenspan is the Captain - in my opinion ofcourse...
I don't think the fact you study economics make you any 'more qualified' to talk about this than anyone else here. Perhaps more knowledgeable than everyday people like me etc...but the only person I'd class as more 'more qualified' is someone who works in the money markets, and/or has had direct contact with the mechanics of US fiscal policy...
Tax and spend, or the miraculous 'trickle down' effect of Reaganomics...
I don't know...but to keep it really on topic - Japan was the first country to syphon of Iraqi oil, how do you like them apples?
me and my husband started thinking about why bush doesnt finish the war. We think it's not soo hard to finish the war for america. they have the strongest army. all different kind of weapons. Actually,it's probably easy for them to finish the war if they want.
so, why dont they finish the war.
we think it's all about the business. do you know how much they make by fighting a war. those weapons they use every single day. It's all money. They don't care about people all they care about is money. it's sucks.
hello,
I guess you're right...but I think the US's problem is they don't have a clear cut, obvious enemy who they could attack and end it all quickly. This is also the big problem with 'the war on terror'...
It's a bit like flies pestering a lion....
This will sound cruel, but I don't think it's the US govenment's job to worry about people who aren't American. Their number one concern is american people/business/interests...which usually boils down to making America rich. I don't think we can expect anything more from them, or any other country....would be nice though, wouldn't it
I understand that everyone has own thoughts. That's why it's very interesting to talk to people all over the world. But i have to say one thing. I dont know who will agree or disagree with me. Probably some people won't like it.
But I think there is something wrong with USA which suposed to be the free and the dream Country...
I respect all who've posted here for keeping a very even tone in writing their opinions. I'll try my best but I apologize in advance if I come across otherwise.
First, I must say that everyone makes mistakes, even the President of the United States. So does the Japanese prime minister. So do I and so does everyone else. If you think you can do a perfect job of bringing world peace instantly, please go ahead and run for the presidency, the head of the state, or the United Nation. Please stop the Middle East craziness.
Second, if you want to discuss the "lousy Republicans", or what a "lousy country" the U.S. is, you may want to know a few things. For instance, did you know that Abraham Lincoln, who ended the slavery, was a Republican? Did you know that the Vietnam War was started by a Democratic president and ended by a Republican president? Democrats were against the Iraq War from the get-go, but guess what? They're pro-abortion. Can someone explain the huge discrepancy here? Please also keep in mind that Japanese economy is heavily dependent on the oil production. A lot of products made and used in Japan as well as throughout the world are oil by-products, and the U.S. is at least aware of the importance of oil. Also, look at France; it was against the Iraq war but it's having a major problem with Muslim immigrants internally.
Another thing you need to know to really understand what's going on is the historical religious background in the Middle East. Do you know why Abraham, a Jewish, who lived thousands of years ago, is called the Father of World Religion? Do you understand or have you experienced racial and religious prejudice and/or tension? You may read newspaper every day to think you know it, but there are a lot of things the papers omit that actually go on that you and I are not aware of.
Let's face it, every country has a problem or two. It's so easy to point fingers. Everyone is entitled to freedom of speech in the democratic society, and I admit that I don't agree to some of the U.S. foreign policy, but frankly, I'm tired of hearing how lousy Bush is. He's not the best president in the U.S. history; he probably isn't the one to be the president at this point in time. But remember, Japan had one prime minister who had absolutely no clue re: diplomacy (I can't remember his name) and was booted out really quickly. Also, if you say the U.S. needs to mind its own business, then what about Japan? How come it's been in the economic recession for so long? How can't it come out of it? It's supposed to be one of the most prosperous countries in the world; why is it still stuck there? If the U.S. is a lousy world leader, why doesn't Japan assume the position? Let's see if it can bring peace.
I'd say whoever said "Never discuss politics and religion" is really wise. :)
By the way, when you say "free and dream country", freedom here does not mean free to do whatever you want; I think it means liberty within the set limits so that everyone can exercise his/her rights equally while respecting others and being responsible for his/her own actions. With "the land of dreams", it means that whoever works hard can realize his/her dreams; dream here does not mean that this country is a utopia.
Someone may have already responded to the very first question as to why Bush wwas elected (I didn't vote because I'm not a citizen), but I'm going to spell it out anyway.
I think it's pretty safe to say that the majority of the country is afraid of seeing moral collapse even further. Legalization of gay marriages is one of the hot issues. There were basically four major issues over which the voters were divided, and moral values and Iraq War were two of them. Overall, though, the majority of the country decided to vote for the one who advocated moral value.
40/41/42> hello とろろ, yeah some great points there... Finger pointing is generally counter productive, but a great way to burn company time for some of us : )
I think the most interesting part of American politics for me (I'm not American by the way) is the fact it operates on the 'republic' model used by Rome. I always wonder why the founding fathers chose this? Can't be bothered to look it up, but if anyone knows do tell...
One quick unrelated thing I liked in the last election was how well the Republicans used the internet. They had bloggers going at it 24/7 - spewing an anti Kerry message across chat sites like MIXI. I think they were referred to as the 'pajama hadeen' or something. Anyway great PR work!
I'm like Osaka Brown, I've never voted and don't intend to...I think the way we do things it really can't be referred to as 'democracy' in the greek sense...
I guess the only ideological leaning I have is that I'm an all out capitalist, as I think this is the closest model we can get that will put things in some natural order, as it used to be in the jungle etc - you don't want to be on the wrong end of the food chain though...
Doesn't mean I support Bush though, as he, as most politicians are, is about special interests...
My humble theory is people who voted Bush are,
whatever the reason is, willing to invite disasters.
Iraq is just an example but hurricane Katrina as well
as many other hurricanes which hit Florida recent years
seems to be democratically invited.
In 1992, the book "Earth in the Balance" warned
American public how global warming affects hurricanes.
"Warming oceans are also likely to cause the average
hurricane to be more powerful, scientists say,
because of the depth and warmth of the ocean's top layer
is the single most important factor in determining
the speed of hurricane's winds. More powerful and more frequent
storms coming into the land from the ocean would in
turn greatly exacerbate the damage from rising sea levels,
for it is during storm struggles that the sea advances
farthest inland from the coast."
( "Earth in the Balance" Al Gore / 1992)
In the year 2000, what Floridian voters did was NOT
to elect the author of "Earth in the Balance"
but to elect "the author" of "Bushism Vol. 1 thru 3."
The United States is a democratic country.
So if voters wish to invite disasters,
it is totally their own decision but my question is
WHY? Very big WHY?
My opinion here is inspired by the article below
(Japanese)
http://www.1101.com/suzukichi/
↑nice theory you got there...(and a very good question too)
In my opinion these days elections are largely won by marketing...they are more like popularity contests than a democratic procedure. I'm not even sure if people are at all bothered by issues, were they ever?? Anyway, I'd say most voters have made their mind up about who they are going to vote for before they even listen what each guy has to say. The way the candidate looks on commercials and if he/she can be made to look like they have loads of charisma is the governing factor here. You can market that. Then it just becomes like supporting a sports team - once you're a fan you're not gonna switch easily...
In branding we ask ourselves the question "what is a ....?". So try it with the then candidates at the start of their campaigns
Q) what is a G.W.Bush?
A) A texan, a man's man kinda guy. His Dad was president. Put your dogs in the truck and go for a drive kinda guy.
Q) what is a J.Kerry?
A) A tall guy, he sometimes windsurfs...
this was the marketing start point for each candidate. Which do you think most americans will identify with?
Most americans weren't really as aware of Kerry as they were Bush, and the democrats did a crap job of marketing him. Plus they let the Republicans attack every character building commercial they put out. They got stuck playing defense...and the republicans managed to strike the ultimate branding death blow which was to get into everyone's head that Kerry was plain, boring, uncharismatic guy. No-one wants to have a guy like that be the figurehead for their country. Perhaps why Clinton was so loved....
So in my humble opinion this was and is the biggest factor in winning anykind of 'mass appeal'. I think a hundred years in the future, we'll just have moviestars and supermodels for premiers....they might do a better job...
I see the pic was your brother then you are a dark skinned, right! What the problem with your skin tone?
You can't change where you born at, can't change your birth mama either.
You have 5 problems making other BLK feel embarrassing to see you around here....
1 you put your own brother's pic
2 you don't show no face (hide something?)
3 calling other ugly (ugly people do call other)
4 picking Japanese ladies for a fight
5 call BLK "your African" doesn't make sense, BLk is not only Africans.
Why be embarrassing to show face here, huh? huh? huh? comon, west side coast!
You sound like a 9 yrs old got big mouth, wah wah wah! a teacher will call your mama soon.
>Black is beautiful you should learn to love yourself
I love this word. it's deep shit!
Yes I love being Japeanese, I love me! LOL
anyway, 3,000 hits is not enough for me, you are not so populer as me yet, My diary is over 500,000 hits. somebody got to lose. Thank you for an entertainment!
Hi there,
you! yeah you over there, braggin, glaggin, blah blah blah...
I know, you know and everyone knows you took the biscuit.
so why don't you give yer gob a rest?
This discussion is about Republicans and Bush. Maybe you should create a separate post about Japan and their problems. Let's try to stay on topic. Besides, Japan's recession has nothing to do with this issue that we've been talking about.
Why should Japan do anything about the war in Iraq? USA began it, and said they'd end it. Well, actually USA said a lot of things. Whatever happened to Osama anyway? I thought that was the original target.
And another thing, The problem in France with the riots has been caused by their blatant racism towards the Muslim community!
And what does Abe Lincoln have to do with anything. That was a long time ago, when Politicians were somewhat decent human beings...
I was gonna keep my mouth shut but this is too much for me. Enough is enough.
I can't stand DanceSt☆r anymore. He keeps posting meaningless posts everywhere and it bugs me so much. (And a lot of others are annoyed too as you can clearly see.) DanceSt☆r, the only reason why your diary has 3000 hits or whatever is because everyone wanna check out what one of the most pathetic losers in the world looks like and what he has to say to make him more miserable.
What he talks about is all competition this, competition that. Whose penis is bigger, who's skin colour is nicer, which race is more superior, stuff like that. It almost makes me think that maybe he has no self-esteem hence he has to fake it everytime he talks to people. That's what people who wanna be recognized do, and it never fails to turn out that he/she will never be recognized. It's like highschool boys saying, "Yo man, I had 20 beers last night, that was awesome." "I had 25, man. I was so smashed" or Highschool girls saying, "OMG I went down on him last night." "Oh yeah? Guess what I did it all the way with my boyfriend!" Simply absurd, don't you think? Why? Because noone cares about useless shit like that.
I really think we should kick his sorry ass ouf of this community. This had been pretty peaceful place before he came in, don't you all think?
Whatever he has to say back to me, I am just gonna ignore. I just don't care. If he was to harrass me on my own page, I will report it to the administrator of mixi.
I'm really sorry to everyone in this community that I made this post. I swear this is the only angry post I am ever going to make here.
You completely missed the point. My post WAS related to Republicans and Bush. I used Japan and its economic recession to make a point that NO ONE IS PERFECT. Also, don't you get it? Japan's economy needs oil! What's in Middle East? Duh!
If you think Republicans are so bad, can you please explain why Democrats feel justified to kill fetuses who, by the way, can't talk back but can hear even in the wombs, for the interest of the adults involved, while they're against Iraq War? War kills innocent people, too, you know.
Re: France, I'm pointing out the discrepancy here - why did they oppose the Iraq war while they are so blatantly racists towards Muslims? Just because they don't like U.S. being the world's "bully"?
Re: Abe Lincoln, I'm merely pointing out that there've been great Republicans out there, in case you didn't know.
Let me repeat here...Bush is NOT the brightest president ever. But when I heard Kerry speak on the radio one day during the presidential campaign, I was mortified - that man had ABSOLUTELY NO opinion or solution whatsoever. All he did was complaining. Anyone can do that. If I had to choose between the two pretty pathetic candidates, I would've picked Bush because he'd already had experience in the White House and he knew what lay ahead. It was WAAAY too scary to even imagine opinionless Kerry pick up where it was left off. One more thing to point out: There were Dems who originally supported the Iraq War based on the exact same intel Bush received. What do you say about that?
The original question posed here may have been simple, but the answers aren't that simple because they involve a lot of different things. There were actually two components to it: reasons for GW's re-election; and oil price increase as a result of the Iraq War and Katrina (I'm guessing). As far as I can tell, most of the world is concerned about Iraq War, but in terms of the U.S. presidential election, that was NOT the determining factor. (Please read my subsequent posts No. 41 and 42 again.) If you don't know enough U.S. politics, I suggest you stay out of discussing U.S. politics.
I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the Dems will do when they get their turn to lead the U.S. Can't wait to see what YOU have to say about THEIR performance.
P.S. GW is actually working (or at least making sure his advisers are working for him); Clinton was having oral sex with an intern while "working."
むっちゃんさん、
You are hateful, and I'd rather not waste my time. It is not a debate when you behave in such a condescing manner towards another person. I refuse to discuss things with people like that. It's less stressful on me and you. But thanks for your input anyway.
