When I saw X-Japan for the first time, I thought they will never be successfulin either domestic Japanese market or international market because I found exiotic makeups etc., are nothing but out of international(meaning American) norm. Furtunately, I was proven to be wrong and X-Japan and other so-called "J-Rock" music have been one of most successful genere both domestically and internationally.
Indeed, domestication of American form of POP-Muic is not new phenomema. R&B played by Jamaican became SKA and Reggae. Rock played by Brazillian became MBP. There should be a lot more examples.
I found one Indonesian pop band "J-Rocks". They not only refer to J-Rock and incorporates the style into their own but also other kind of Japanese Rock music, from old to new. I found they are particularly fond of rock music from late 80's such as Rebbeca. They even seem to have their own understanding in 'MOE' culture. Isn't it great? http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=GZnN4Gzy3Qk http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=OLQDQ96cwrw&feature=related
How do you think of J-rock? Do you have J-Rock bands in your domestic market? How's the popularity of this sort of music in your country? Do you know any home-made J-Rock bands?
