Often i see people talking on public transport, like the bus or the underground.
When it is late night, and it is not many people, people often talk quite loudly.
I ALWAYS listen to their conversation! Sometimes its really interesting or funny. For example last night there was a korean and a japanese girl on the bus. They were talking about the strictness of their parents, and then talking about finding an english boyfriend, to improve their english. Then one girl says "but how can we meet english guy?"
I couldn't help but laugh, i thought the conversation was very funny.
Sometimes it is quite funny, ESPECIALLY if it in Japanese. Most japanese in london do not expect any english people to understand Japanese, so the subject they are not shy about talking about certain subject.
Once i heard that i was good looking, when two girls sat across from me. Of course, since i am polite, i told them "thanks very much" in japanese. I have never seen someone so red.
Does anybody else listen to loud conversations? Do you ever join in? Do you have any funny experiences?
A:"Where is she ?"
B:"She is shxtting on the seat." LOL
If you can understand their accent, you will probably get it. When I heard this, I was like, "What ? In this public area ??? She must be really charming."
I often listen to others' conversations on public transportation. When they are talking loudly, I can't help listining to it and that's how I usally start listening intently.
It is difficult when they make good jokes, isn't it? I once could not stop smiling broadly listning to a very silly joke, and the boy noticed it!
Speaking of conversations in foreign language, I used to work in a company near an international school, and I often encountered foreign kids on train.
In those days, I always listened to their English conversation as they obviously seemd to believe none Japanese around them understood what they were talking about!
They were often rude, rediculing Japanese which often irritated me.
I once noticed a boy making fun of Japanese by saying "pokemon" or something everytime they walked past someone. I spoke something to him in English, and I still remember how shoked he looked!
Recently I went to a Chinese restaurant in Poland with my parents.
Since I speak a bit Chinese, I ordered in Chinese.
It was really funny to hear the waiter talk to the chef in Chinese.
"They've ordered a tomato egg soup in a big bowl."
"But we don't have big bowls!"
"Doesn't matter, just take a rice bowl"
"They said they want chili peppers in their chinese cabbage."
"Really? Are they Chinese?"
"No, they are Germans. They seem to like Sizhuanese food."
Later the cook came out to have his lunch and talked to us some. And continued to chat with the waiter.
"Do you think she understands what we are saying?"
"No, I don't think so"
"She's cute, isn't she"
Unfortunately, I've never had Japanese people talk about me, though... :-(
unfortunately i also have a similar experience, was two japanese girls talking about me and my japanese girlfriend (now ex), when we are on the bus. Was saying how bad it is that japanese girls go to western guys, etc, and it makes westeners think japanese are easy and stuff. It really pissed me off actually, and my girlfriend got upset, so i went to the back where the girls were and asked them if they wanted to join me and my girlfriend in bed, cos i had "heard" that japanese girls were easy, and they looked like sluts.
While in school's elevator the other day, bunch of guys including me were on the way back from class, that it happened.
You know, the door obviously opens and closes just routine things wherever you get in. I still remember there were almost 20 people got in the elevator that I was kinda gonner because of too much people out there. Anyway, everyone got ready to ride in that seemed like in a harry.
What happended was the door were operating like over and over.
one of the guys said " Who did that shit ? " that he said it like loudly.
I was kinda ignoring him that I've already evaluated him he was sort of crazy, just like got high or something.
But He asked somebody the same things one more time, "Who did shit?".
The answering guy told him " You absolutely did that shit!".
Then, every guys in elevator started cracking at him a.k.a the asking guy.
It turned out that elevator'd been beeping since the asking guy got inside. It also meant there was no space with him, the capacity said.
Actually, he was like huge just like footballer, so it makes sense ya?
Pretty much, it was all story about when I was in elevator using kinda my good skill a.k.a "EAVESDROPPING".
I usually have trouble not listening if I hear something, so generally I follow stories where I can, when I really feel the need, I sometimes jump in the conversation :3
In Japan they often whispered to each other thing like: "whoa he's so tall" (I can understand at least that much Japanese) so I usually just go to them and tell them that I'm 2 meter, cause they seem to wonder anyway ^^ Elderly people usually just ask instead of whisper and giggle ^^;;
Sometimes you hear people argue over something really really silly and you have to laugh ^^;; I feel a bit bad doing that if they are serious, but it's hard not doing so :]
I know people talk loudly in public. on the train, bus, at a cafe, on the street....etc.
Everyone can listen to their conversation, everyone knows it. but we don't care about it mostly....why?
sometimes they talk about very private things....yes, when I worked at a cafe, I heard many interesting stories from customers. (it was when I was at university...long time ago...)
I was always close to them because it was a quite small cafe. So, I think they knew I could listen to their conversation completely. but it seemed that they thought I was not there....
I was a stranger for them, just a waitress, so, they don't care if I know their secret maybe? It was sometimes about complaint of their boss, teachers, friends....etc. or about their troubles, an affair, sickness....etc. or about their husband, wife, bf, gf....etc. They talked about their private stories. veeeeeeery private... ;)
One day, a guy bragged to others about his new gf. but he seemed to girlfriends so far.... and he seemed to proud of it. besides, other guys looked like they envy him. and they talked about how to cheat the girls....I was young at that time, and I was very disappointed. now I know there are a lot of such guys, though....sigh
sometimes I heard the names who I knew in the conversation... because I was local. It was interesting but I thought I would talk with careful.:) there are a lot of EARS around me everywhere. hahaha
It is the same with talking on the train or bus...? we tend to think that people around us are strangers....
I sometimes talk to an English teacher in English when I don't want my son to know. :D but sometimes he knows...maybe feels...about what I talk to...haha
Its just annoying that people talk loudly in public
they should get to know the rules of being in public but the fact is that we dont have everyone to follow the rules and its impossible to have them obeyed
if everyone follows then we dont need any protections or police that catches fugitives
It happened in Virginia when i was still in middle school. I was shopping at GAP with my friend, and i was waiting in a forever-long line to pay.
Right in front of me, there was a drop-dead hot guy.
i think he was a little older than us, and looked like Freddie Prinze Jr. My friend(Japanese) and i were talking about him in Japanese behind his back, "Gee~! He's SOOOO hot!!" the talk went on and on ....We just kinda chetter away for good 10 minutes, saying how hot he was. we were just joking around, but we're telling each other to go talk to him and get his number or something, but neither of us was serious.
We werent loud, but werent talking in whispers b/c the whole talk was in Japanese. But after a while, one Asian lady approached him and started talking to him in JAPANESE, "Hey~! what are you getting?"
Within a second, we heard him responding to her in absolutely fluent Japanese!!!
We were so busted...Obviously he understood everything we were talking about!! This taught me a lot!!
haha that made me laugh so much! it is even more funny cos he didn't say anything to you, but actually he had understood everything!
Gang Star :
It is annoying, but i imagine some crimes could be prevented! imagine someone is plotting a crime loudly on the train.. you an report it to the police!
baby:
i hope what you talk about with the english teacher is ok for your son to hear!
I agree it's not nice to hear guys being idiots.. but this is men!
Miszou:
I think when you're tall you have to expect to stand out! you know that saying about the nail standing out.. just hopefully you aren't being hammered!
yukosugar :
I also love sleeping on the train. actually i can sleep anywhere, on train, bus, plane, car...
It's really nice to have an attentive listener, as long as they are listenening and not just sleeping with their eyes open!
