Also, I was wondering, Have you ever had any encounters with gangs?
I myself have had a few encounters..
Two of them was in my own Neighbor hood. The one was a 'Wannnabe' Street racing Gang. I would be driving pass their place going to my house and they would always be looking at me as i pass by. The fact that i drive a Sports Car didn't help.. One day they jumped in front of my car and confronted me. Asking why i always drive by. I asked him if he had a Death whish jumping infront of my car.. But he ignored me.. LMAO.. I can't help it if it's the only street to my house. Anyways, He asked if i wanted to race for pink slips. I asked him if he wanted to bet money on how fast the police can get here. After a few more exchanges of words they left and never bothered me again after that day. But they kept looking at me.. LMAO.. They are so sad though, running their gang out of some Guys mothers home.. A Child Home Daycare never the less.. Very "Gangster" if you ask me..
Another time, I was hanging out at a park around 3am in the morning with some friends. And some Cholo (Mexican Gangster) came up to us by himself and started asking who we "represent". or who we "Banging" with. After a few exchanges of words. He walked away.. I thought it was funny. But, He didn't like it when we laughed at him. The fact he was outnumbered 5 to 1 wasn't very bright of him either.. But anyway..
Another time, I was hanging out at a beach. Now, If your in this area, and your not white.. Let's just say, it isn't a very safe place to be.. Unless you are white.. It's an area with extremely racists white people. But anyway, It also has a nice beach to drink at during the night. Since the police never bother to go there. ..I wonder why..? But anyway, These white guys walk up to me and my friend and were like.. "Hey, You guys know what '88' means.. I was like.. Ummm... Yeh... "Alright man!! WHITE POWER.." "We white people need to stick together" "F#*$ the Non-White people" and he handed me a 6 Pack of Beer. Never the less, it was an odd experience. Since i have never actually encountered these kind of people..
Also, If you don't know what '88' means.. It stands for the 8th letter in the Alphabet. Which is "H" so "88" is "HH" which means Heil Hitler.
Anyhu, Just some Mild experiences i have had. I've never actually gotten into with any gang/gang members.
I consider them scum, they are criminals and cowards.
Where I live in Toronto ( canada has very strict gun laws btw ) we have shootings and stabbings almost daily, it is spread out from TO itself all the way out to places like ajax or oshawa, it is 90% of the time gang related or drug related.
These people are complete garbage and cowards, they drive around shooting people, they don't care if they harm or kill innocent people and they are just all around uncool and wastes of life.
I am highly against crime and there is no excuse for people behaving like complete animals.
Throw them in jail or hand out stricter penalties.
Im with Incubus9! I say lets hang 'em by their feet and skin them alive! Gangs are getting out of control, especially in the U.S.. There should be a department or branch whose sole purpose is the eradication of gangs in the country.
It all started on the west coast, and still Los Angeles is the gang capital of the United States. I saw some statistic that said L.A. has something like 70,000 active gang members. That sounds like a lot, but I'm sure it's even higher than that.
We had never heard of gangs in NYC before you started seeing all this crap about the bloods and crips in L.A. about 20 years ago. We still don't have a huge gang problem but we do have some. Most crime in NYC is still individual, though; domestic or drug related. Not that there isn't too much crime - there is - it's just not usually because of gangs.
What pisses me off is gangs now infiltrating the suburbs. Cities in the United States have *always* been somewhat dangerous, and even if it didn't used to be because of gangs, the overall crime rate is pretty much the same. But suburbs used to be where you went if you wanted to raise a family and live in safety. Not anymore, at least not a lot of places. Gangs are in suburban schools now. Crime is going up in the suburbs - in my county just outside of NYC (Nassau), crime is up about 30% just in the past couple years. It's because of gangs.
I think that countries like Japan are proof that the answer to most crime is education. But gangs are different, especially now that they're in the suburbs where there already are good schools. Maybe we do need harsher punishment as an example to those who will come later. And we need the return of some good old fashioned parenting. If I ever thought my kid was in a gang, I'd pull him out of school and move somewhere else, out of the area. Get him out of that situation. This is the parents' responsibility - what else is more important than your kids? They could ruin their lives and the lives of a lot of other people if they get caught up in a gang.
There have always been gangs of some sort in the USA. The USA has the highest rate of gang violence and turf warfare. Pretty lame that many people need to fight over such stupid things.
Not going to go on a huge rant because in the end, they're all scumbags.
I got robbed once. They said I looked at them funny, but thats bullshit. Maybe I was wearing the wrong colors or something, I don't know. But I was kind of lucky, because I had a backpack on, with my PS2 in it (this was back when the PS2 was new), and they only took my cash. They just told me to give them my money, but didn't ask what was in the bag. I only had $5 dollars, so I didn't bother fighting, but if they tried to take the PS2 I would have busted some heads. lol
I had a funny experience with a gang about 10
years ago. I was in Malaysia and I was sick of
the people I was with so I went into Georgetown
and got hopelessly lost. At about 2.00am I walked
past a group of young guys with a couple of girls
who were obviously in a gang.
Anyway they asked me why I was there and I told
them I was lost. So they gave me a very frightening
lift home. I'm talking 3 people on a motor scooter,
and even the safest Malaysian driver will give you
a few grey hairs.
I've also had a gang experience in Papua New Guinea
but that was more me misunderstanding the situation
than being in any danger.
Maybe the most frightening was in East LA. I was
walking down a street at night...it was safe during
the day but at night even the cops didn't go there.
There were a few young African Americans sitting
on some steps and as I walked past they said a few
things, the only one I remember is, "What you doin
here white boy".
I mustered my thickest Australian accent and said,
"Ah sorry, I'm Australian...I'm lost."
Funnily enough as soon as I said that they became
really nice and gave me directions as to the best
way to leave the area and avoid trouble. Kind of
funny now but at the time I thought I was going to
die.
