Hello Mixi community! (^_^) I have a question or two for the foreigners living and working in Japan.
I am planning to go to Tokyo with a working holiday visa from May till August. So that's just 4 months. My question is, are there jobs available that would be okay with that short a time span? If so, where can I find them? I would rather not teach english, but it may be my only option...
Like Skindeep said, there are only 2 jobs for a gaijin woman in Japan, hostess and teacher... Sorry Meggie. Or you can speak very good Japanese and then you'll get something else.
All they would do is wait under the stairs for girls with skirts... Not to mention they tried to steal other people's as well. Too funny, thats all I gotta say. One got slapped in the face. He came up to me and said why are girls in America too strong. I guessed he enjoyed getting hit though.... Weird guy...
thats why japan is so fun :P you can enjoy yourself watching strange people or strange things happen in shibuya or harujuku .some shop even sell urine . if any of you guys run out of job ,you can always donate something in exchange for $ .japan is a recyle country :)
Yeah bro Herpe, it's such a funny country, the best is in Manga Shop, when there's a girl singing in costume (COSPLAY) there are so many ugly Otaku looking at here with that pervert look, and they are sweatting so much, nearly masturbating... Hahahaha what a bunch of losers!
Could we possibly stay on topic? If you want to discuss the gross habits of otakus and the like, please create another pointless topic....
So, about JOBS. I currently work in a japanese grocery store in my city and have to speak japanese anyway, so do you guys think I can work in a similar enviornment in Tokyo? Or are the chances of me getting hired low?
yes..it so fun ,just to look at them ( otaku) .and those woman in shibuya or harajuku put on dark makeup ( some go to fake sun-tan salon) with big white lip .looking at them really make my day :P
I'm not from toyko, but I think there should be possibilities even that short period of time, Meggie san. Why dont you look for some job sites covering in Tokyo or how about the Japan times? four month sounds so short, so you should now start looking for a job from now, but don't tell even if you can find the job before coming to Japan to the Imigrations. Then, you would need a working visa, instead. I'm a quite serious type person, so I were you, I would want to find a job before coming. Because you have only four months here!! Very very short... still I hope you can find a job there because it's Tokyo!! Such a big city of possibility!!
Good luck!!
Enjoy your Tokyo life!!
Working without a visa is too dangerous! You cannot do this in Japan. You would get fine and sent to jail, afterward they'll send you back home and you'll get a 5years banned from Japan.
I'm getting a visa though! Working holiday one.
Do you think it's possible to work in a store though? I work in a Japanese store here and have to speak Japanese all the time...I think I could function in Japan as long as customers don't ask me complicated questions...
>>DanceSt☆r That's a cool comment, made my laugh my head off man! I know one very good area in Osaka too called "西成" (Nishinari), most people have 9 fingers instead of 10.
DanceSt☆r> Haha....well I'm sorry but I'm not exactly "wild." That sounds deeply fishy to me. I don't think I am model material either. I thought all models in Japan were skinny blondes anyway...
Hi Meggie
Given the type of job you are looking for, it may be worth checking this site out from time to time. Quality wa jibun de shikkari assess shite ne!

Teaching English to kids, I am sorry Meggie, but don't expect getting something else, at least you won't be disapointed. You re staying 4months only. A lot of us cannot find anything else than teaching even after 2, 3 or 4years.
I own a shop online, teach French, work in a bar as barman and I am a DJ too. I also worked at Aichi Bampaku for the Swiss Pavillon (Aichi Expo 2005). I do teach Muay Thai too, but only when my trainer is not at my gym. You can teach Yoga if you are doing it, there a big Yoga boom right now.
I wish I could stay longer than 4 months But I have to come back here for school. I don't expect a white-collar job, lol.
I read somewhere that the Working Holiday visa thing does not want me to work in a bar or similar establishments. It says I can't work in a bar or something that conflicts with "moral ethics." Is that true??!!
