UCSDコミュのOngoing Support for UCSD Students Impacted by Disaster in Japan

Dear UCSD International Student,

We at the International Center are deeply moved by the devastation in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and are deeply concerned about the well-being of our students, scholars, and their families and loved ones who may be impacted directly or indirectly by the tragedy. The International Center and the entire UCSD community stands ready to provide support and assistance to our students and scholars from Japan and UCSD students in Japan.

You should have or will be receiving a personal phone call or email from one of our international student advisors. We are calling to see how you are doing and offer individual assistance as needed for the following:

o Difficulty in completing Winter 2011 coursework or final exams
o Possibility of taking a leave of absence or withdrawing from UCSD for Spring 2011 quarter
o Financial issues due to the earthquake/tsunami
o Travel information
o Ongoing information regarding the earthquake/tsunami

We are currently working with other campus departments, colleges, and offices to develop solutions and options for those whose academics, finances, or personal well-being may have been directly or indirectly impacted by the situation in Japan. We welcome your feedback regarding your concerns and needs.

The International Center has created a resource webpage for UCSD students impacted by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan: http://istudents.ucsd.edu/students/helpjapan.html. This page has information about communicating with loved ones in Japan, free calls and texting to Japan, traveling to Japan, getting news from Japan, and accessing support and resources at UCSD. If you have any resources to add, please email istudents@ucsd.edu so our office can update the information.

The International Students & Programs Office has added a Japanese Student Discussion Group to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/istudents.ucsd. You can access this group by clicking on “Discussions” under our profile picture. Please feel free to use this Discussion Group to reach out and connect with fellow Japanese students. This is your space to share information and get in touch with one another. This discussion group is open to comments in Japanese and English.
