Groovesect is a New Orleans based funk band formed in 2006. Recently voted Whereyat magazine's 1 new orleans funk band and 2 in the contemporary jazz category, Groovesect is definitely a band to watch for. Their debut album was recently released and produced by legendary producer John Snyder and features the great Fred Wesley.
Inspired by the syncopated beats and jazz rhythms of New Orleans and beyond, the guys homage to the greats while forging their own sound.
The members of the band have diverse histories in music which brings an eclectic edge to their playing.
Always ready to rock a crowd all night, Groovesect feeds off the energy of their fans as they jam out on an old classic or a new cutting edge original. Always…the place will be moving.
Groovesect’s sound reflects their diverse inspirations as well as the deep musical relationships they have forged with one another after playing together in various incarnations in the Crescent city since they were eighteen years old ‘til now (six plus years together).
They blend Jazz, Soul and New Orleans fusion music while maintaining a ‘Get Down’ nasty funk sound that is a brand all their own.
Fred Wesley (Trombonist of the Famous JAMES BROWN horn section ‘The J.B.’s) joins Groovesect both on their debut album most recently released and at the BOOM BOOM ROOM on Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th.

Uganda Roberts, Groovesect's percussionist, was the only steady member of Professor Longhair's band, and will also be present. Groovesect was also recently voted the #1 Funk Band in New Orleans in the 2007 Best of the Big Easy Awards (sponsored by Where Y'at Magazine).
