--------------------------------------------------- I was there at the show and Lars did collapse after the 5th or 6th song, 20 minutes into the show.
Nobody really realized what happened at the time. I thought at first that he tripped and fell on his back (knowing he has a bad back) which to me seemed like the most logical thing at the time.
Not knowing what was going on, the crowd began to yell ''Rancid, Rancid'' and/or ''Lars, Lars'', then Brett (not the mic tech) came to the mic and seemed kinda panicked and said to the crowd to ''Shut the fuck up, he's hurt for christsakes''.
Then they took Lars and got him backstage for a good 5 minutes. After which 'Big Jay' came to the mic telling everyone ''Lars' gonna be alright... we think. As soon as he is ready we'll resume this thing''. Then another 10 minutes passed and they asked to everyone on the stage (backstage passes owners) to get off and go behind the scene... which didn't seem too positive to me at the time. After that Big Jay came back to the stage and took all of the remaining bottle of water and threw them into the crowd. Then, Tim, Matt and a girl who could translate english to french came to the stage to announce that Lars had been transported in ambulance to the nearest hospital, that he fell unconscious and in Tim words that he had ''like a seizure'' but was ''ok, now''.
He also said that they'd be back in Montreal to do a ''make-up show for free for everyone coming back with their tickets''.
The thing is, I was filming the show and caught it all on tape. I watched it a couple of times (watching it as I type this) and to me it seemed pretty bad as he literally fell unconscious in a flash. HOWEVER, he did not seem to hit his head on his way down as it looks like he managed to protect himself while falling. I am no doctor and I honestly have no clue how bad Lars' state can be and/or the reasons why this could've happened (I'm guessing exhaustion) but I would not be surprised to see some Rancid shows cancelled in the near future. I know they had 2 dates in Toronto starting tomorow and knowing them I'd bet they're gonna cancel those to let Lars rest. Again, this is pure speculation on my part.
there are no more details that comes to mind that I could add, unless you guys would have questions for me I could re-watch the show and answer them for you.
ALSO, I thought about it for a long time while driving back to my place after the show (2-hour drive) and I came to the conclusion that I WILL NOT leak this video on the internet. I will not send this video to anyone as I have too much respect for the guys and to me it would feel inapropriate to do that.
Due to Lars Frederiksen's sudden illness, Rancid will post-pone their shows from Sept. 1-4 in Toronto and Buffalo. The tour will resume on Sept. 5th in Pittsburgh, PA. Tickets for the post-poned shows will be honored for their correlating reschedule dates to be announced shortly. We appreciate your understanding and will return soon!
