◆東日本大震災支援企画 ジョック・スタージス新作写真展
会期＝2011年5月10日[火]―5月21日[土] 12:00-19:00 ※会期中無休

東日本震災支援企画と銘打ったのは、震災の二日後、3月13日にスタージスさんからいただいた以下のようなメッセージからです。
"First of all, are you all OK? I am sick with worry about all my Japanese friends and so terribly, terribly sad about what has happened.
I would like to do as much as I possibly can to help. If it is possible for my next show with you to still happen in August then I would like all of my share of the money from sales to go to your choice of an earthquake/tsunami relief organization."
「まず、皆さんご無事ですか？私は、すべての日本の友人たちや、今回起きたとてもとても悲しいことを思うと胸が痛みます。
私もできるだけのことをしたいと思います。 私の個展をまだ8月に開催する予定でしたら、私の売上げ分すべてを、あなたの選んだ地震・津波の慈善援助組織にすべて寄付したいと思います。」
このメッセージを受けて、8月の予定を5月に繰り上げて開催することにしました。
2010年に撮影された25点の新作をご覧いただきます。ぜひ、お出かけください。
また、スタージスさんが、震災支援のために特別にプリントしてくださった作品を、5月20日からのアートフェア京都で販売いたします。こちらは、11x14インチサイズのプリントで、1点30,000円という格安の価格で二つのイメージ各25部ずつございます。作品を買うことが震災支援になるという企画です。ご協力よろしくお願いいたします。

"In the large world of art and photography my one voice is small ~ quiet and very simple. I will always be the first to say that the beauty in my pictures belongs to the models themselves. I am very lucky that they are so generous with me.
Thus, as I am lucky man to whom so many are so generous, it is entirely appropriate that I lend my art's humble voice to the world effort to respond to the tragic events in the Tohoku area. My head is bowed in sorrow for the great suffering in the north. But I am also awed and inspired by the great stories of heroism and sacrifice that are emerging from this tragedy. My respect for Japan and its people has always been very strong. But now it grows like a lion in my heart.
If the sale of my work helps even a single person then I will feel deeply privileged. But my real hope is that my small voice simply adds itself to the choir or love and concern coming from all four corners of the globe. The song that choir sings is simple:
We see you. We care. We will help as much as we can.
Japan is of course a powerful country with one of the world's strongest economies and will herself do the vast majority of what is necessary in Tohoku. I have not the least doubt of this. But as Japan's heart is wounded by these terrible events, so is all the world's. In the face of such sorrow and loss, helping in even the least of way helps us all heal. I am honored to do what I can.

「アートや写真の大きな世界の中では、私一人の声など小さく〜静かで、ひじょうにシンプルです。私はいつも最初に、私の写真の美しさは、モデルたちそのものの美しさであると言い続けています。彼らが私にとても寛大であることは、私にとってたいへん幸運なことです。
したがって、私は、とても多くの人から寛大にしていただいている幸運な人間であるので、東北地方のいたましい出来事に対応しようとする世界の努力に、私のアートのささやかな声を役立てようとするのは、しごく当然なことです。北部の大きな苦しみのために、私の頭は悲しみで垂れています。しかしまた、私は、この悲劇から分かった勇敢な行動や自己犠牲のすばらしい話に感動し、元気を与えられます。日本とその人々に対する私の敬意は、いつもひじょうに強くあります。そして今、それは私の心で、ライオンのように成長しています。
私の作品の売上が、たった一人でも助けることができるなら、私はひじょうに光栄に思います。しかし、私の本当の望みは、私の小さな声が、地球の隅々から集まる合唱や愛、関心に単に加わるということです。合唱が歌う歌は、シンプルです:
〈私たちはあなたを見ています。私たちは気にかけています。私たちはできる限りの支援をします。〉
日本は、もちろん、世界で最も強い経済を持った力のある国です。そして、東北で必要とされるもののかなり大きな部分を日本自身がなしえるでしょう。私は、このことに少しの疑問もありません。しかし、これらのひどい出来事によって日本の心と同じように、世界中の心も傷付けられました。そのような悲しみと損失に直面し、ほんのわずかであっても支援することは、私たちすべての癒しになります。私にできることをするということを光栄に思います。
