Anyway, in this country, people do a fund raising to raise money, say from the presidential campaign to a trip to Disney World. My friend's niece is in the girl scout and they are raising money to go to Disney land. They sell cookies to raise money. Other groups may sell frozen pizzas, offer car wash and etc. High school students do this fund raising to get enough money to participate in some tournaments in distant cities...
What do you think of this system. How do you feel if your son/daughter needs to sell 3000 boxes of cookies to be in a trip to Disneyland?

It is good system indeed.
Though I don’t think Americans treat their stuff with care, through working and making money, we can come to use money properly and treat our stuff around us with care.

That’s also a matter of degree, according to ages and experiences.

I agree with you. It's not easy to say 'no' in Japanese society. Also, it makes harder to ask people since we know this mind set.

stuff という言葉ですが話し言葉でとてもよく使われますが書き言葉としてはあまり適当とは感じられません。他の言葉を使ったほうがいいと思います。
