Hello, everyone. My name is Mari Shigehisa. Today, I’d like to talk about Saint Valentine’s Day.
The origin of Valentine goes back to the Roman Empire. When the 3rd century of an era and Christianity were not authorized, St. Valentine who was the priest of Rome was adored by poor persons, children and sick persons. Because he had deep love. The Rome emperor forbade marriage of a soldier, in order to strengthen a soldier. However, Valentine made many man and woman get married secretly in opposition to this. Valentine became a martyr on February 14. Because he touched on anger of an emperor. And this story joined Roman custom. Young daughters carried pot which got in paper wrote hers name in forest, and young man choose from paper. And he married choose daughter. In 496 years, a pope provided Valentine’s Day on February 14. Valentine was behind called the Saint of love and his name itself became the symbol of love. When it became the whole Europe country and medieval times with the army of Rome, it overlapped with commercial development and spread in every corner of the earth including a U.S. continent. In Japan, The Morinaga chocolate developed a Valentine plan in 1960. In Japan, it fixed.
In Europe, there is a custom of presenting a flower, a cake, a card, etc. to a sweetheart. Unlike Japan, it is not only a male from a woman. The custom of presenting chocolate to a sweetheart started about the middle of the 19th century in Britain in early the 20th century. The custom in which a woman presents chocolate to a male is what started in Japan. It is the sweetest and it is supposed by Sweet that this confectionery was chosen. In Taiwan, a male is an informer in many cases. Chocolate is often sent.
