This is a monthly performance series by DJ .Kota. This 7th performance shows his thoughts on rave and dance music. Setting BPM much higher than his usual DJ set, he represents his favorite latest dance hits using "deconstruction"process. Rest in peace, Charles Haddon.

"Beware of Needles"シリーズも７本目、よく続いてますね。（笑）えーっと、今回は、いろいろと負の連続があったことで、いつもと趣向が違うコンテンツに仕上げました。まず第一に、ここ最近続いていたアシッド〜メロ重視の路線から離れ、またレイヴ的な路線に返ってます。第二に、今回はいつも映像の趣向が大分違います。まず何よりもアングル、ボクの姿は手のみが映し出され、フェーダーやツマミやエフェクターを触る手に徹底ズームしてます。「このボタンをいま押したから、こういう音になりました」という事が即座に分かる、ある意味ナラティヴな映像になってます。そして、その映像もエディットがいつもより随分と時間をかけてやってあって、いわゆるテクニカルな路線に偏らず、あくまでダンスミュージックのエンタテインメントとして楽しめるようにしてあります。
前回同様に、６〜７月頃に顕著だった新曲がメインのパフォーマンスとはならず、随所で自分の曲からのビート等は使っているものの、あくまでDJ／キュレーター／編集者という内容にして、かつ徹底的にアッパーなものにしました。「レイヴ」ということは強く意識したものの、やはり、どこかNu Disco的な音も散財したのは、そういうDJを続けている事からの影響が出たのかもしれないですね。演奏的には、一応ベーシックにプリプロが施されたableton Live Arrangement Viewがありまして。その上に、Session Viewで色々と遊べる設定が作ってあります。それらの音は２分割で、ZERO4ミキサーに直接送られていて、その卓上でミックスやエフェクト処理作業が行われてます。今回、映像に思いっきり映し出されているのは、そのZERO4での作業と言うことになります。ZERO4では、EQ処理とフェーダー操作は勿論ですが、エフェクトが２段階で施せるようになっています。
今回の内容は、あくまで特別篇。ボクは、いわゆるチュートリアル／テクニカルなDJプロジェクトはやりたくないですし、DJがどのような作業をしているかよりも、その選曲や内容に集中してほしいと前々から考えて来ました。同時に、DJというのは、コンセプト・オーガナイザーであり、編集者であり、「何かを一つの世界にまとめあげる」役目を担う存在だと思っています。しかし、今回は、「何かをまとめる」ということもほぼ無視ですし、映像はチュートリアル／テクニカルな要望に応えるものを、「あえて」作りました。

For example, he has been published his electronic live set of "Istana Musik" his original track, some chill out deejay sets, ravey deconstruction deejay sets, nu-disco sets, curating "Tokyo Melodies" etc… And now, we're ready to show you his new one, for October 25th release.
This newest performance features the third deconstruction deejay set on this "Beware of Needles" project. As he mentioned above, 'deconstruction' is his original cut-up process using ableton and some other plug-ins. On this newest program, he used 14 tracks in 10 minutes. Some are mashed up, some are used as a very simple sample audio loop, some as a main track, and the others are just a brief essence. Comparing to the last two deconstruction releases on "Beware of Needles", this month's content is more closed to techno, dirty dutch house music, ghetto house music, and of course, rave music. He did some pre-productions in advance of this gig performance, and mixed them live using ableton live and KORG ZERO4 mixer.

今月は遅れることなく、予定通り２５日より配信する事が出来そうです！ DJ .Kotaの方は、１０分強におよぶテクノ／レイヴ／エレクトロのセット。細野晴臣や大沢伸一、Boys Noizeや、Para Oneなどの楽曲を取り上げて、新しいカットアップのフォーマットに構築／シーケンスしています。
先ほど、haL / Black Edgeの新作もマスタリング完了。引き続きヨーロッパ／アムステルダムでの流行を基調としたミックスで、Crookersなどのロッキンレイヴテクノも交えつつ、Afrojackらの最新ダンスヒット、ポストトランス／ピアノハウスという印象が強く感じられるトラックも充実した一時間で、マスタリングしているので音質も抜群です！

YouTubeのビデオを見て頂ければ分かるように、こちらは所謂CDJやターンテーブルによるクラシックスタイルのDJミックスではなく、 YouTubeのアップロード可能時間という制限された短い時間の中で、様々なハードウェア／ソフトウェアを使ってのパフォーマンスになっています。あまりリスナーの皆様には用のない話かもしれませんが、もしかしたら機材面などの事について興味ある方もいるかもしれないということで、どのような演奏になっているか、説明します。
ableton Live 8 + KORG ZERO 4 + Cycling 74 Pluggo といった感じのシステムです。ableton Liveは最低限のプリプロを施したアレンジメントビューの上を、セッションビューで自由自在にリアルタイム操作していけるようにしてあります。どの曲も WAVで取り入れて、１曲あたり複数ファイルをオーディオトラックにロードする事で、即興的にRe-Editしたり、簡易的なマッシュアップが出来るようにしてあります。それらは、３分割でFireWireによってKORG ZERO4に送出。ZERO4側で、更にエフェクトを施した上でミキシングして、このような演奏になっていきます。
