Please find the following information which happened close to FAO on 20 September. This message was posted on VCN-Rome (mailing list) today (21 Sept) by one of those colleague working at FAO.
------------------------------------------------- Yesterday morning a colleague of mine here at FAO has been attacked on the way to work at 7:45 in the morning (!). Two young men first asked him for money and when he declined one of them tried to grab his backpack. He managed to hold to his bag and walked on. Moments later they followed him on their motorino and one of them hit him in the face. They then left him and drove away.
The incident took place on Piazza Remuria (right behind FAO at the end of Viale Aventino).
He was taken to the Pronto Socorso and had to have 4 stitches. He also suffers from pain in his hip due to the fall.
Now I know that Rome in general (and the San Saba/Aventino area in particular) is considered very safe, nevertheless it might be advisable to be a bit more alert in the future when walking out of the office late in the evening.

SECURITY NOTICE
We have been informed that last Friday evening in the area of Laurentina metro station/ Via del Serafico a colleague was robbed and slightly injured by a group of persons.
This sad incident has given me the occasion to reiterate the recommendations already made about the dangerousness, especially during late hours, of metro stations or isolated areas. All staff are advised to be careful if you happen to be in such circumstances and it is best not to walk alone.
A request to the local police station for more frequent patrolling of the areas nearby IFAD, especially during evenings and night time, has already been forwarded.
