The Prime-Boost HIV Vaccine Phase III Trial in Thailand was launched in 2003 and aimed to test its efficacy to prevent HIV infection at 50%.This is the first and largest trial in the world!!! Approximately, 60,000 villagers were interested to join the trial. Over 25,000 potential volunteers were screened and about 16,000 volunteers were enrolled. Screening process started in September 2003 and lasted for two years. Enrolment was completed in December 2005. Vaccination was completed in July 2006 and about 14,000 volunteers received full vaccination (six immunizations in 6 months). Now, the study is in the 6-month follow-up for three years. It is expected that the interim analysis would be carried out in July 2007. The final analysis would be in July 2009.
