‘Deja Vu’ is all about music videos with special stories. Our feature for today was the first Korean music video to introduce "object animation." It won first prize in its category at the Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival. We’re talking about Shin Seung-hun’s ‘Separating Despite Love’.Set in the 1970s,it’s about a teenage boy and girl’s meeting and separation. The girl tries to bring hope to a dying boy by tying new leaves to a withering tree.Sadly, she dies. The story sounds familiar, doesn’t it?It was inspired by O Henry’s ‘The Last Leaf’.
‘Maria~ Ave Maria’ - it’s a song that’s become as famous as the movie it was featured in.The track gained widespread attention because Kim Ah-joong sang the piece in the movie ‘200 Pound Beauty’.And everyone knows that behind every box office hit is a great soundtrack, right? But it’s only been seven years since Korean soundtracks gained 2)massive popularity.
In the past,Korean movies featured domestic actors, but their OSTs were usually made up of American pop songs. For example, take the movie ‘The Contact’,which features ‘A Lover’s Concerto’,or ‘The Promise’,which features Jessica’s ‘Goodbye’.A major reason for this was probably the poor box office performances of home-grown movies.
