We are the team Asymptote, the international web journal dedicated to the art of translation and literature.

Asymptote is an exciting new international journal dedicated to literary translation and bringing together in one place the best in contemporary writing. We are interested in encounters between languages and the consequences of these encounters. Though a translation may never fully replicate the original in effect (thus our name, “asymptote”: the dotted line on a graph that a mathematical function may tend towards but never reach), it is in itself an act of creation.
On our web site, we've published more than 80 literary works written originally in more than 20 languages and then translated into English.
We are now announcing all of you the launch of our second issue!
April issue features new translations of work by Nobel Prize Winners
José Saramago and Imre Kertész, an interview with translation scholar
Susan Bassnett, drama by Han Lao Da, a memoir from Cuba, the photos of
Yevgeniy Fiks, a Q&A with Taiwanese video artist Chia-En Jao and more.
From Japan, Sayuri Okamoto gives us an essay about her own private
hanami [you probably know better how to introduce your own
essay!]―written originally in English.
