NOVA 藤が丘校コミュのPresentation in VOICE :Language Acquisition

Meg and I made a presentation in VOICE on Saturday September 16th. We asked the staff and teachers at our branch to allow us to give a presentation in VOICE. We did it in Special VOICE. In the first VOICE lesson, both of us gave a presentation respectively. In the second VOICE lesson, we had the time for questions and discussion. We passed out handout too. Our topic was Language Acquisition. My friend talked about Children's first language acquisition. I discussed second language acquisition for adult learners.
My specific topic was "Identifying Errors and Mistakes". My claim was : Most of the English teachers say "Don't be afraid of making mistakes when you are speaking English", but I think it's important for you to care about the mistakes of your English because you can learn from your mistakes. I've been collecting the errors and mistakes of my English to develop accuracy and acquire native sense. It's effective for a language learner to notice the gap between the native speakers' English and their English. I discussed it using quotations from Rod Ellis( Linguist) and my English learning experiences at NOVA.
 It was very difficult to give a presentation. It didn't work very well as I had expected. Plus, I had difficulty using expressions for a presentaion. For example,I wanted to say, Please take a look at the next ..., but I couldn't think of the word and I looked at the teacher. The teacher said, " section". I tried not to read directly from my notes. But I needed my notes. I should have memorized the outlines. I didn't prepare notes for explanation. I just prepared handout to pass out and discussed it using my own words. It was a good point. But, my explanation was not so good. I wonder if everyone understood. But I was happy that the students were taking notes while they are listening. For me, if the class is exciting, I take a lot of notes.
It was a pity that we didn't have the time for questions and discussion about my topic. I wanted to get feedback. So, during the break between the lessons, I asked the teacher for advice about my presentation. I asked him, "Did you understand what I said and what I meant ?"
He said, "Yes." I was relieved. His advice for me was:"1.You should give less information in your handout for students to be able to concentrate on listening to what you are saying. 2.You don't need background description in your handout because you explained it. 3. The example of errors and mistakes is good, but you should have given it to the students after the presentaion because they are busy reading the example and you can't get attention.
It was a great experience. I'd like to make a presentaion in VOICE again. But I need more practice. Also, I'd like to watch a great presentaion to be like an example and learn tips and useful expressions for a presentation.

I talked about our presentation and showed my handout to a level 2 student in Fujigaoka VOICE yesterday. He was amazed. He said he wants NOVA to make level 2 VOICE in Nagoya like Tokyo and he requested Sakae NOVA to make it. I said to him: " Shibuya(Tokyo) NOVA offers a presentation VOICE in level 2 VOICE. You can make a presentation in Special VOICE here. We did it. I want you to give a presentation here because I want to watch an excellent presentation. "

The teacher gave me a comment about my idea. He said: " Sometimes it's very difficult to correct students' mistakes because it might discourage students to speak English." I should have mentioned the target learners who I deal with in this presentation. I said: " My idea is intended for adult learners especially more than intermediate level, not for junior or senior high school students. They want teachers to give them grammatical comments, I think. Plus, you should correct students' errors naturally. For example, if students say something in English making some mistakes or errors, you should paraphrase what students said using correct English forms for them to notice the gap by themselves. Naturally is the point.
