I've been a big fan of Conan since the beginning. But unfortunately, since moving to Japan I havent been able to watch him every night as I used to, and I must admit it's been somewhat of a bummer. My question is, would most Japanese people find him funny? I realize there is always a difference in what certain groups of people find funny, and when I watch alot of comedy shows in Japan, I find that many of the things I see would probably be done on Conan as well. What do you think? What about David Letterman or Jay Leno? I think Letterman's humor might be a little hard to understand.
I think Letterman's tough because his style relies heavily on irony, which is more of a north American type of humor.
I think people in Japan would like Conan since he does a lot of physical comedy (and a lot of Japanese comedy is physical comedy). I mean, the physical comedy he does is pretty intense. I still can't get over the pole dancing bit he did last year.
From what I know, a lot of my friends who came from Japan with not very good English backgrounds still enjoyed him, but thought it was hard to follow since he talks fairly fast.
