I am looking for people living in tokyo that know where to go riding close by. I can't seem to meet anyone that knows any good places to go for a quick day trip. I haven't been back to San Francisco in about 3 years. I am craving a good day ride someplace relatively close by with somebody that knows the trails. Road riding just isn't doing it for me anymore!!! Unfortunately, sunday is the only day I have free right now....

I can't help too much, as I haven't mountain biked in Japan (besides taking my mamachari out on some trails), but I did find some resources on the web that may be helpful:

2 articles on riding on Mt Fuji

This is a tour in Yamagata (perhaps skip the tour, but that means there should be riding there):

I was always annoyed that the best way around the country is by train, yet they don't allow you to take bikes on the train (unless they are boxed or bagged).

I am in San Francisco now. if you do come back, we should connect for a ride.
Thanks for the info!!! I will check those out. I am currently checking up on some info I got about some good single track up in tskuba. I'm not big on the downhill bomber sessions that all the ski resorts, such as Fujimi Panorama, offer here. If you manage to get back here some time, maybe we can take a ride. I got a spare bike to lend out.
You can also check out MTBR.com. They have a forum where covering areas outside of the US at http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42. There are some posts related to Japan there.
