In this one-day velocity workshop, you will discover how to use the tools of the arts to free yourself of past fears, concerns and limitations, and begin powerfully creating the life you desire. In the workshop you will actively play three roles in exploring your life: Writer, Artist & Actor/Director. You will also experience yourself as Creator, Audience & Critic. From past Art of the Breakthrough Workshop participants: "Thanks so much for creating this incredible workshop and allowing me to take it twice. I do not work in the creative field per se, I am a business and technology strategy consultant. Yet creativity and the ability to look at a problem from an untraditional perspective is a highly valuable skill to have in my field. And this was exactly what I got access to through participating in your workshop -- a realization that allowing yourself to be uninhibited, creative, challenging the status quo and expressing thoughts and ideas freely is actually very much appreciated by established corporate business culture. I was able to get access to thinking "out of the box." In fact, such way of thinking, is not any particular skill. We all have it but it is hidden behind our formal professional training. The creative writing exercise where I wrote poetry, spontaneously, both times (the only times in my life) opened access to expression of my thoughts with harmony, driven by "emotional intelligence." Being able to tell the story using visual tools/graphics is absolutely invaluable, as this is the best way to communicate any idea. Since the workshop takes place in a group of people, each participating in others' work, I got feedback on what people saw in the visual expression of my ideas. I have learned the value of simplicity and leaving space for others to "fill in the blanks," this is a way to stimulate their creativity and create their ownership of your original idea. In my professional application, I have already used it to facilitate creative sessions where complex problems are solved with simple solutions and communication was simplified and streamlined. The acting part of the workshop gave a unique opportunity to bring my own situation of interacting with people in my world and model it with people in the workshop who had random backgrounds. Being an actor and a director of my own skit and having the ability to modify something in the second iteration and see the shift in conversation and the outcome taught me interesting lessons in human dynamics and how to maintain discussion so that the desired outcome is achieved and the potential for the future cooperation is sustained. One thing that was present throughout the workshop, the first thing, in fact, that was established, was the background of mutual respect and genuine interest in people as humans. I took this technique to every area of my life: the most rewarding thing for anyone is when somebody expresses interest in them as individual personalities. As much as I gained insight into my own creative potential, I learned how to appreciate and evoke creativity in others. My ability to engage other people in a creative process proves to be especially valuable in all areas of my life where I deal with people. Donna, thanks again for creating this incredible workshop. Besides its face value, it is a great way to spend a day, meet interesting people, and explore and surprise yourself. I recommend this to anybody; it holds the promise to discover something new about yourself and being able to gain insight into others as an ongoing practice." --Serge Davidoff, Business and IT Strategy Consultant, Senior IT Solutions Architect for IBM Global Business Services "At first I wasn't sure what to really expect and how it would be but I found this workshop to be a really cathartic experience, a journey through the past to help create a better future and see things in perspective. It's not a lecture but a proactive and hands-on workshop that will really allow you to express yourself in different ways and realize that no man is an island out there alone in the ocean of life." --Carolina Gasiorowski, United Nations administration “I discovered a whole new language of self-expression. There is power in the written word, in the visualization of images and working in a group environment that I never imagined. Coming from 20 years experience, the workshop has brought me to a new level of artistry--professionally in claiming ownership of my talent, and in newly discovering the voice of a fine artist.” --James Verdesoto, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Indika Entertainment, a bi-coastal advertising firm specializing in motion picture advertising and design
