Re: The Japan Center - Canon Essay Competition
at Stony Brook University

Dear College Educators:

The Japan Center at Stony Brook (JCSB) is delighted to announce the Second Annual “JCSB-Canon Essay Competition at Stony Brook University” for the year 2006-2007. The first Competition for the year 2005-2006 was a remarkable success with extremely impressive award-winning essays and gratifyingly high-quality essays submitted overall.
The aim of this essay competition is to promote awareness and understanding of Japan in the United States, and to help young Americans broaden their international horizons. There will be three Best Essay Awards, and each winner receives $2,000 cash award and a Canon camera as complementary award.
The theme of this competition is "Japan and Me". This competition is open to all the college and university students on Long Island and in New York City. Deadline for the submission is December 31, 2006. Please forward the enclosed flyers to appropriate Deans, Department Chairs or faculty members in areas such as literature, social sciences, arts, and other humanities and science/technology fields. We hope they will take advantage of this opportunity to encourage their students to write inspiring essays, broaden their horizons, and have a chance to win the Best Essay Award.
Detailed information and complete rules can be found in the enclosed flyers. Photos from the Award Ceremony and Reception at the beautiful Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University are shown in the appendix enclosed. The results of the first year competition and the award-winning essays are displayed on the JCSB web site:
