Hi tk-san,

Thanks for joining this community!

I started this community, but I am not an expert on wine. I also only buy cheap wines! Most the time, I get advice from friends about what cheap wines are good. If you drink a wine and it is pretty good, please let us know.

I am also a big fan of blue cheese. Let's talk more often. よろしく!

Hi Seth-san,

My name is ai.
I'm pleased to find this community!
I drink wine almost every night, so I'd like to get more information on cheap and good wines.

I usually buy French wines at discounted prices around 1000 - 2000 yen from online shops. Most of the wines I bought in this way have been OK and sometimes very good so far.
But I want to know more about the wines from other countries like Chile, Argentina, South Africa, etc...

I looking forward to talking with all members of this community.
どうぞよろしくお願いします!

aiai
Hi aiai,

It's nice to meet you. It sounds like you get some good prices on French wines. I think France still makes some of the best wines in the world. However, French wines are famous for having a wide range from very good to very bad. It is difficult to know what to buy unless know a lot about wine.

My friend who runs a German restaurant in Japan told me that French and Italian wines are over-priced here because they have good reputations. Therefore, wines from Chile, U.S., Australia, etc. will be cheaper even if they are the same quality as French wines. I especially like wines from Chile, such as Leon de Tarapacas. Happy wine drinking!

Please give me some recommendations. As I said before, I am not a wine expert. I am just a wine-lover! Let's keep in touch!
Hi Seth-san,

I'm also a wine-lover, not an expert (far from an expert).
I will try Leon de Trapacas!
Among the Chile wines I've ever drunk (I haven't tried many kinds of Chile wines, though), "Errazuris Merlot Cabernet" is the best. It's around 1300 yen, but very good!

I really want to know more cheap, good wines.
Please keep in touch!

aiai
Hi ai,

I will look for the Errazuris Merlot Cabernet. Where do you usually get it? Thanks for the advice. I hope more people join us to talk about wine!

Seth
Hi Seth-san

Nice to meet you. I'm very glad to find this community.
I've just started "MIXI LIFE" 2days ago.

I drink one or two bottles of wine every week. Mostly they are red wine. My favorite cheese is red chedar cheese. Let' keep in touch.
Hi Seth-san,

How are you? It rained so terribly, didn't it?
I found Errazuris Merlot Cabernet at an online wine shop (sorry, I forgot which shop it was...).
How about Leon de Trapacas? Where can I find it?
Well, about cheese, I like cream cheese and mimolette.

Sugar-san,
It's nice to talking to you!
I usually drink a bottle of wine every two days...
Hi ai-san,

That was quite a storm. Twice in a week! I don't mind. It is nice to stay inside with some good wine!

As for Tarapaca's wines, I bought my supply from my friend who has a restaurant (his restaurant 'Saint Schwein' in Miyoshi, Chiba uses Tarapaca wines as his 'house wine'). He was able to get a good price for me. I also sometimes buy Tarapaca at Kinokuniya and a place in Setagaya-ku (I forget the name!)

The company recently changed their name to Vina Tarapaca, so maybe you can find it at an online shop under that name. I recommend the '96 cabernet sauvignon, but almost all Tarapaca wines are a good value. As for cheeses, I love almost everything. My favorites are brie, havarti, mozzarella twists soaked in pesto, and any kind of blue cheese. Cream cheeses and red cheddar are also very tasty!

I'll tell you what I think about Errazuris as soon as I get some!
hi. i love cheese. ive always hated them when i was little though. dont know much about wine, but would like to know! ヨロシク★
Hello!

I love wine and would like to improve my English.
This community looks very interesting!
As I am not really familiar with English vocabulary to explain wine, I am expecting to learn lots from this community.

よろしくお願いいたします♪
Hi すいか、

Thanks for finding this community! Your English looks pretty good, where did you learn? Most of us (including me) don't have a great 'wine vocabulary,' so let's learn together!

To begin with, do you drink wine often?

I look forward to talking with you more often in this community. よろしくお願いします。

Seth
Hi!

Sorry for my long absense...
I found a good, cheap French wine, "Heritage NV
domaine Santa Duc."
I bought it from an online wine shop at 1,100 yen!
It has really a rich but smooth taste.

As for cheese, I ate "Baguette" for the first time.
Have you tried it before?
It's a washed-type cheese with its shape like "baguette." I don't like washed-type cheese so much but this is very good.

Seth-san
Actually I haven't tried Tarapaca yet.
I couldn't find it at the online shop I always buy wines. So maybe I have to go to Kinokuni-ya.

Hi Seth-san, and all

I would love to drink wine anytime, if I have someone get tipsy together.
Actually, drink every other day from October to April, when my job is not so busy and once or twice a week from May to September.

Some of my friends made fun of me that my blood is red wine and my body fluid is rice wine (日本酒), while I am telling my blood is Pinot Noir and my body fluid is Chardonnay.
I am not mimic to Ms. Naomi Kawashima or Jesus Christ.
But just feeling like so.

I've been in London for 2 years (1995-97), and learned English in there.
Unfortunately, the good time was such a long time ago and I don't use English often in my daily life, therefore I am in danger to lose my English skill...especially for speaking English.

Generally speaking, I like cheese, but have just tried limited numbers of them.
And also no idea about marriage with wine.
I might try the one in aiai-san's comment during this weekend.

Have a nice weekend!

Suika
Hello aiai,

It is nice to hear from you again. The 'Heritage..' sounds like a good wine. Did it's taste match the baguette cheese? I am anxious to try both!

Hi Suika,

You have a good sense of humour! I like the way you write. I imagine you are a fun person to go drinking with. We should try to gather a group of people in the Tokyo area sometime.

Do you have a favorite wine bar that you often go to? London is such a great city! I am jealous that you had the chance to live there. I was only able to visit.

I have been drinking wine recently at restaurants with my boss. Sometimes the wines are pretty good. Unfortunately, I often drink a little too much and forget the names!

-Seth
Hello.
Nice to meet you.
I live in New Zealand.I'm learning English here.
I'm glad to find this community.
I love wine and cheese.
I always eat anything with cheese.
but I don't know the details of wine and cheese.
I just enjoy having them.

よろしくお願いします。(^0^)/
Hi! Seth-san and all,

It's a great idea that to set up a get together meeting.
It would be fun!!

Unfortunately, I don't have a favorite bar at this moment. I usually drink with friends but not really have regular places. We usually tried to find a restaurant where we can bring our own wine or meet someone's flat.

By the way, I tried 2 kinds of cheese last Friday.
One was the Camembert with pepper. It was yummy! The melting center part and spicy pepper was well matched.
The other was Dutch conte.
We had this with Vin de Pays from Rhone (mixed white wine: Viognier & Sauvignon Blanc).
The wine was something new for me, as I never had this mixture.
I basically don’t like Sauvignon Blanc, unless they are aged. But the mixture successfully changed my unfavourite green pepper smell of Sauvignon Blanc to fresh forest smell with Viognier’s sweet milk tea/white flower smell.
Unfortunately I have same problem with Seth-san and never succeed to remember the name of wine….

Suika
Hi Seth-san and all,

A get together meeting sounds great!
Let's make it in near future.
I sometimes hold a wine party with my colleagues at a wine bar in Ginza, where you can bring your own bottles for free as long as you order a course menu.

Anyway, the wine I drunk with the baguette cheese was not Heritage, but Chateau Boyd Cantenac, which has a stronger taste than Heritage.

Well, I'm going to a wine bar in Ginza called "Terroir" tonight, so I'll tell you what kind of wine I try there.

See you soon!

サチさん、

It's nice to meet you!

New Zealand is a great place to study! I have many Japanese friends there now. It is also a great place to enjoy cheese, I think. Does New Zealand have its own wines or does it mainly import from Australia? What have you been drinking down there? In this community, let's learn about wine and cheese together!

すいかさん、

Peppered camembert sounds so good! Where in Japan can I get that? The Vin de Pays sounds delicious as well. I just started reading on the internet about wines made from mixed grapes. I also heard that Sauvignon Blanc grapes will make wines with vegetable smells unless they are aged well or grown in small amounts. Such a challenge!

Meeting at a wine bar and trying different kinds of wine is fun, however, so is meeting at a flat (where everyone brings a bottle to share!).

aiai,

How was "Terroir?" It sounds like an expensive place to drink (being in Ginza). The wine bar you mentioned that lets you bring your own bottles also sounds like a good place. How is their dinner course?

I also drank a lot of wine last weekend. I actually started an 'afterhours' Wine and Cheese English class using my company's office. I will tell you about it as well as the wine I drank in a new topic.
Hello!

New Zealand has a lot of vineyards.I went to vineyard near my flat on Sunday.I tasted white wine there,It's tasty for me.I don't know detailed of wine.I just enjoyed tasting.
I could find a lot of Australia wine in shop.I think Australia wine is cheaper than New Zealand wine.I'm not sure.
Hi! Seth-san and all,

The cheese I had on Friday, were easily found in Matsuzakaya, Ginza. If you go Basement 1 the cheese shop is next to FAUCHON. They always offer tasting for customers. It is quite good and their recommendation is always good. So I just follow their recommendation.

The wine might be found in Ginzaya (liquor shop in Ginza 4cho-me). The shop-Owner is not really talkative if he is not familiar with someone (if you go just tell him I recommended you to go there. in that case please use my first name in my profile), but he knows very well about wine. If you explain your favorite taste, he would find something meet with your satisfaction within your budget. (Especially for Bourgogne.)

Suika
Hi!

Sorry, I found a mistake in my message.
"Terroir" is not in Ginza, but in Roppongi.
It was really a good place.
They have a wide range of wines in terms of price.
We ordered 2 bottles of Chile wine (white and red) and it was around 3500 yen for each.
The white one is "Montes Alpha Chardonnay" and the red one is "Montes Alpha Merlot."
Both were really good!

As for the wine bar you can bring your own bottles, the course menu is 4200 yen, and five or six kinds of dishes are served. I think you'll be satisfied with the taste and volume. And its atmosphere is also good!
