The Mitsui Compound Community Independence Day Celebration (CIDC) is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd, rain or shine! The event will include a parade and live entertainment all afternoon. There will be games for kids and adults, with free popcorn, snow cones and refreshments for all. The event is open to the public and tickets are available for 1,000 yen at the following Chancery and Compound locations during regular business hours: the EWA convenience store, the EWA office and the CLO office. Tickets are also on sale outside the Embassy Cafeteria from 11:30 AM -1:30 PM through June 15th. Children under 5 get in free. Compound residents are encouraged to buy a ticket if they plan to enjoy the event.
GATE ENTRY (GREW GATE):
From 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM on June 23rd, anyone entering the Grew gate will be expected to have a ticket, show a photo ID and go through security screening, including a bag check if necessary. If you have invited guests to attend the celebration, they must have a ticket and enter through the Grew Gate along with all other ticket holders.
Vehicles will not be allowed in or out of Grew Gate starting at 9:00 AM. Normal vehicle and pedestrian traffic will resume at Grew gate at 6:00 PM.
GATE ENTRY (PERRY GATE):
Perry gate pedestrian traffic will be operating as usual. If you have guests arriving on that day, they must use the Perry gate and will not be allowed onto the compound until the host arrives at the gate to escort them inside.
CAR REMOVAL:
In the event of rain, the celebration will move into the Temple Townhouses garage. To ensure that there is enough space in the garage, cars parked on the upper lot of the Temple garage must be moved to the Chancery lot or some other suitable location by no later than 11:30 PM, Friday, June 22nd. If you plan to be out of town during this time, please leave your keys with someone who can move your car. Between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, the Grew gate will be used as the main pedestrian entrance for the event and no vehicles will be able to enter or exit both gates. If you will need to use your car during that time, please park at the Chancery or some other location in advance.
