This mindful flow class integrates hatha yoga and Buddhist meditation as a path toward experiencing both the strength and purity of a Yoga Body and the clarity and awareness of a Buddha Mind. We will learn and practice mindfulness meditation as a way to create strength, stability and clarity in our mind. Then we'll get up and move! Our mindfulness meditation will inform our asana practice in this signature OM yoga class that never stops moving; continuously discovering moments of awareness in the sensation of our feet on the mat, the breeze of our swinging arms and the sound of our breath. Paying equal and close attention to asanas and transitions, this dynamic class offers hallmarks of OM yoga -- creative sequencing, clear instruction and plenty of hands-on adjustments -- allowing our practice to truly become a vibrant, grounded gateway to a more awakened life.
Hridayam, the Sanskrit word for heart, means "that which receives, gives, and circulates." We'll investigate how our backbends flow and where they get stuck by weaving together energetic sequences that open the shoulders, melt the psoas, loosen the back with deep twists and dissolve our attitudes of we think we can and can't do. Pranayama, partner work, maitri meditation, and perhaps a few laughs will open our tender hearts and help us find the fun in bending backwards. Hip openers are an opportunity for transforming habitual patterns of aggression toward ourselves. Just as you don't like to be pushed or pulled before you are ready, neither do your hips. As we learn to relax and trust the flowing stillness and profound intensity of hip openers, we observe how that can create space in our minds and hearts, too.
Our hips are what allow us to travel through the world. If they are too tight or too loose our ability to locomote with balance, confidence and integration is compromised. The same is true for how we yoga teachers help our students with their hip openers -- if we are aggressive in our attitude or wimpy in our touch the students don't get helpful information.
In this teacher's class we will start by looking at people, not poses, as a first step toward learning how to customize adjustments -- verbal, hands-on -- for every individual. We will clarify the principles of hip opening in standing, balancing and seated poses and define anatomical, relational and movement landmarks to inform how we teach and adjust hip openers as a balanced and useful offering for our students.
?Adjustments for Back Bending 【バックベンドのためのアジャストメント】 日時:9月14日(日)14:30-18:00 費用:10,000円
Backbends are often thought of as heart opening poses with all that infers -- a sense of vulnerability, liberation and courage. One of the most valuable things we offer as yoga teachers is the personal transmission of what we are teaching. In this workshop we will cultivate an intention to be helpful to all students and from that open-hearted place we will take a look at the familiar obstacles and common landmarks of all backbending asanas. We will learn and practice clear and compassionate adjustments for backbends as well as modifications that will allow students to grow toward big backbends without losing interest or getting injured.
?How to Teach Any Pose to Any Body 【それぞれの身体とポーズに対する指導法】 日時:9月15日(月・祝)9:30-13:30 費用:10,000円
When you start to really look at asana practice you begin to see patterns, in alignment principles, action initiation and relationships in the body. We will take some complicated poses and discover how to totally deconstruct them, using consistent yoga principles so that you will be able to teach any body any pose without causing stress or injury. We will look at how to create beginner sequences that develop toward more advanced poses -- feel free to request any advanced pose and we can take a look at it and go from there.
