Dear Japanese Cultural Ambassadors and friends:
First of all, I apologize for my long silence.
I have been super, super busy for the last six months. And... here I am again! :)
When the summer has come out, it is such a great time for outing and enjoying basking in the sun (don't forget to apply the sunscreen!). And the more exciting thing is that evenings are still wonderfully warm to wander around... People go out for a walk, do some outdoor sports, just chit-chat with lots of laughs, eat in relaxing spots, and keep our fun time going. The summer is always great, isn't it? I do love it - oh, except for insect bites!
When it comes to the summer season, many Japanese salarymen (meaning business men and women) are lured to go to a beer garden after work even if it's a relatively late night time. Yes, the Summer's beer garden is one of the Japanese must-stop-by places!
Unlike in Japan, unfortunately, the laws in the U.S. don't allow festive people to enjoy drinking under the sun or moon. What a bummer! But hey... I found this great place in Astoria !!!
This is an outside beer garden called 'Bohemian Hall'. The garden is quite large and surrounded with real trees. There're bunch of picnic tables filled with joyful folks sipping chilled beer in big American-sized jug and tackling plates of Czech food. Oh, pardon me!... there's NO Japanese food--- but why not? It's such a great place! The atmosphere is casual and often with folk music on the weekends.
Bohemian Hall is located in a lovely Astoria, Greek-influenced neighborhood. The place is usually jammed at night time. So, please come by early to secure your spot; otherwise, you won't find a chair or table to seat around (just keeping standing up for your exercise purpose might be good for your heath!).
This is a very casual gathering, feel free to come and go to share a good time with good people. Also, please on't hesitate to bring friends. The more, the merrier. Then, take home a lot of smiles with you. I'd be extremely happy if ALL of you could come enjoy beer, Czech food and new friends!
