    Introduction:

Though many associate the word "Jibaro" with Puerto Rico, actaully the word stems from the South America. An important tribal group of present-day Ecuadorean region, comprising a great number of small subtribes which inhabited forests between the Santiago and Pastaza rivers and southward to the Amazon. More than any other tribe of the upper Amazon region, the J?baro are notable for: 1) when they went to war, the heads of enemies were smoked by an ingenious process which preserves the features 2) their determined and successful resistance to all efforts at conquest or Christianization. This resistance of course made people refer to them as "savages", and why it became a derogatory statement if someone called you a J?baro. To the racist, it meant that the person was of indigenous decent, uneducated, was poor and lived in the country. In Puerto rico, "J?baro" refers to rustic life stlye. A Jibaro is a poor mountain man who besides work hard, made music and art a major component in their way of life.?J?baros made their own entertainment and most of the time that meant music. The J?baros became poets, artists, painters, craftsmen, composers, and great story tellers.?A Jibaro's trademark is their honesty, bravery, hospitality, self-sufficiency and simplicity.

    La Mano Fria Report:

Known as a newsletter and column in various publications, La Mano Fria transforms words and ideas into his trademark graphic design style throughout this exhibition of selected imagery. A visual report of the struggles and injustices suffered by third world people. The imagery of spears and natives carrying automatic weapons don't imply strength rather the state of desperation and oppressed majority of this planet live in. Machine guns, suicide bombers, shoulder repelled rockets are as outdated as the spear or a bow and arrow. Compare what the enemy has. The ruling minorty which control the wealth of the world have weapons like stock markets, world banks, global intellegence organizations, a massive corporate media network, the strongest military on the planet on the planet with state of the art computerized weaponry. The pieces are mixed media (pray pain, acrylic, markers, wood, paper, etc..) and dedicated to all those that lost their life to be heard.

    La Mano Fria:

La Mano Fria aka El Jibaro is a graphic artist, record selector, a label owner, a visual soldier against the global undemocratic system which engulfs the world today and most important a simple man, son of Colombian and Costa Rican immigrants that fled their country to settle in the urban jungles of NYC in the late 60's. Born in 1973 in a prodiminently South American community of Queens, NY, La Mano Fria influences are all music (latin, hip hop, techno, roots reggae, etc.), old punk rock record covers, Cuban OSPAAAL posters and NYC graffiti movement. Founder of the Beta Bodega, Rice and Beans and Botanica del Jibaro and Arepaz record labels, La Mano Fria has always fused his ideas and work with those of artists to form a record label which is completely unique. But most important it shows that a multi media can give and voice and shine light on issues and voices that are commonly ignored.
