Veronika Dobers exhibition Nobody can catch the tail of the dream.
Veronika Dobers, who paints on transparent acrylic panels, is often asked “Why don’t you paint on canvas?” She answers,“Why draw on canvas?”The acrylic panel is smooth like the surface of water with no ripples. Everything is locked in and the time is stopped. “In my case, I begin to draw from the most important thing.”These words reminded me of the graffiti in childhood. We didn’care when we were children about the position, size, or perspective, and drew and drew. In our childhood, a girl was just a girl. A cloud was just a cloud. A dog was just a dog. A flower was just a flower. What’s the subject that looks like blue cloth? What’s the subject that looks like a monster braids? Though it’s entertaining to create a story by giving some meaning to the motifs in the works, we also want to stop conceptualizing and surrender ourselves to the mystery of her world. The subject is sure to exist, but it can’t be grasped. The obscurity is comfortable. When we face her works, we follow the opposite way of enjoying usual drawings. That might be why we feel refreshed in front of them. Her works have been planned precisely, but the deeper we experience them, the more innocent and precious they get. We have had few chances to meet the works of Veronika Dobers in Japan. In this season of vivid verdure and fragrant breeze, we offer you the opportunity to view them.
