Please join Saiko and Metropolis for an unpredictable evening of live music, DJs, MCs, dance performances and artists at SuperDeluxe in Roppongi, this Friday.
Saiko Tokyo Live Music Showcase presents some of the astounding bands to be found in Tokyo to an international audience. Created by Metropolis magazine and Music Editor Dan Grunebaum.
Saiko is a live music showcase in Tokyo launched by Dan Grunebaum, Music Editor of Metropolis magazine, and friends in 2007.
Saiko brings an outsider's perspective to Japanese music and presents some of the astounding independent acts Dan has come to know in two decades in Japan.
Saiko vol.1, "Best Japanese Albums," was a DJ night that presented classic Japanese records to an international audience in Roppongi.
In 2009, Dan teamed up with Metropolis to reboot Saiko as a full-fledged live music showcase.
In addition to presenting Japanese music to an international audience, Saiko provides a venue for Japanese bands to reach foreign listeners without having to go overseas.
Where does Tokyo’s international community go for great live music? And how do Japanese musicians reach a foreign audience without going abroad? To help provide an answer, music editor Dan Grunebaum and Metropolis present a series of nights featuring some of the astounding music to be found in Tokyo. In April, Saiko vol. 3 “Rock Chick” celebrated Japanese women rockers with an evening ranging from the heavy to the arty at Roppongi club SuperDeluxe. Now for the July heat comes Saiko vol. 4 “Mecha Groove” – a look at some of the expressions of black music in Japan, with urban rhythms from J-soul to jazzfunk, broken beats to trip-hop.
