「Benjamin Skepper and Michiko Suzuki are proud to present "contrapuntal"....
“contrapuntal” is a symbol of the synergy between couturier Michiko Suzuki (ex designer of Yohji Yamamoto’s Ys red label) and musician/producer Benjamin Skepper. The term contrapuntal refers to the art of combining two or more independent melodies in harmonic fashion. In this connection, the two artists seek to fuse couture and musique into a united artform.
The title of the exhibition, “Requiem d’une marionette”, is contrapuntal’s premier exhibition and Suzuki’s design inspiration for her first collection (2010 Spring/Summer) is drawn from Skepper’s violoncello composition titled “marionette”. Fantastical, whimsical, ephemeral and spell bound, this collection recalls the memory of children free to express imagination and emotion in a limitless world.
“requiem d’une marionette” will also mark the release of Skepper’s first solo violoncello 12” LP titled “eika 詠歌”, the original music of which will be performed live at the exhibition. Skepper will also be performing original compositions on a 16th century designed Flemish harpsichord crafted by instrument maker Akira Kubota.
A limited number of garments will be available for your exclusive purchase (cash only) on the day of the exhibition, each accompanied by a limited edition copy of “eika 詠歌”.

contrapuntal (コントラパントル) というのは、クチュリエの鈴木道子（ ヨウジ・ヤマモト Ys Red Label元デザイナー)とミュージシャン／プロデューサーのBenjamin Skepperによる相乗効果を表現する作品である。 contrapuntalの意味は独立している二つ以上のメロディーを結合し、ハーモニーを得るということである。それにより、芸術家であるこの二人はクチュールと音楽を一体にすることを目指し、作品を創作している。
エクシビション の題名“requiem d’une marionette”は contrapuntalの初演のエクシビションとなり、鈴木のこのデビュー2010春夏コレクションをデザインするきっかけとなったのは、 Skepperがチェロで作曲したmarionette（操り人形）という曲による。空想、気まぐれ、はかなさ、魅せられたこと、このコレクションの想像は、無限の世界にイマジネーションと感情を自由に示す子供の心、そしてその記憶を思い出させるものである。
“requiem d’une marionette”の初演と同時に、エクシビションで演奏するSkepper が作曲した曲を”eika 詠歌”というタイトルで 12” ソロチェロのLPを初リリース致します。そして、１６世紀のフレミッシュチェンバロを元に久保田彰が製作したチェンバロでSkepperがオリジナル曲も演奏致します。
当日のエクシビション終了後に、 洋服、及びレコードの作品を限定販売致します。 （尚、現金のみのご購入とさせて頂きます。ご了承ください。）
