Urban Monkeys - Live -Hardplace - Cairns The Urban Monkeys are James Whitehead and Adam Giardina, two Dj/producers from Australia. James and Adam have been writing music together for the past four years, merging their musical talents to produce their own original style of gritty grinding techno music.
Urban Monkeys music takes influence from various styles and is typically hard to categorise. Their music appears on download site reviews under many styles – techno, tech-house, fidget and electro have all been used to describe their sound.
Recently their track 'Messed Up' hit the No1 spot on trackitdown.net fidget house chart. This has lead to some exciting collaborations coming up later in the year, most notably the 'Grooved Music' label which will release "Dysfunktional Caterpillar" with two of the finest producers of this style The Bulgarian and Geoff-K on remix duties.
But it isn’t just their productions which have been gaining notice. Urban Monkeys have been unleashing their dirty live sets in clubs and festivals up and down the country and their dynamic stage presence and synergy is best seen in their live DJ performances which are fast building a reputation nationwide.
With ongoing remixes, original productions and an international tour set for next year, Urban Monkeys continue to build their reputation as one of the most innovative and consistent production acts breaking through the ranks today.
Drewan -Open Recs Drewan is the newest addition to the Open Records crew. Playing a chunky blend of minimal and techno gear, Drew has quickly gained a reputation as a smooth operator and a strikingly handsome gent.
His ninja mixing skills and O.C.B.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Beatport Disorder) ensure every set is of the highest standard and Open Records strongly believe that Drewan will be a name to watch in the years to come.
Also well respected for his fishing, origami and ice skulpting skills, Drew is a pillar of strength in the Cairns party community and an essential addition to the Open Records team.
Venus- Illumination Veronica (Judy) de Bryune aka Venus, has focussed her D.Jing to the earlier sets and has opened Illumination party's for the last 5 years. Venus also played on the Realm stage at Dream Scape over the last few years, including a sunrise set in the Chill Dome at this years Winter Solstice. Venus mixes a blend of Atmospheric Electronica, Angelic vocals and Tribal Percussion. Venus is also co-producer of the Illumination event and will be playing from 9pm till 10 pm on the Tower stage this year.
Mojo Rising Mojo Rising is Mony and Joe. They have been listening, playing and dancing together for over 3 years now. They are heavily influenced by friends, fringe dwellers, animal lovers and people in the know. Mony brings beauty and finesse to the team, while Joe lifts heavy things. It has been said that at times maybe they are having a bit too much fun behind the decks. One thing is for sure... they will get your mojo rising with their choice of dirty techno.
