Tanabata(meaning "Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese.
The celebration is held at various days between July and August.
The Star Festival originates from Chinese love legend of the two bright stars, Altair and Vega. Vega, a weaving girl, and Altair, a cowherd boy, loved each other. They separated to king by the Milky Way. They meet once a year across the Milky Way only on the night of July 7th.
On this day, people write their wishes for the future on slips of paper and tie them to bamboo branches.
