FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JAPAN ‘DANCE’ FUNDRAISER LAUNCHES ON FACEBOOK WITH SUPPORT FROM LONDON AND GLOBAL DANCE MUSIC COMMUNITY

For Andy Newcombe, a London resident and former language teacher in Japan, what started as a small Japan fundraiser on Facebook, has now grown into a global online event resulting in upcoming dance events in London, New York and Chicago, with others to be confirmed. On Friday 18th March at Plastic People in London’s east end, A Dance for Japan will bring together a group of DJs including world renowned Basement Jaxx member Felix B and Ashley Beedle, to raise money for the Japan earthquake and tsunami appeal.


Organiser - DJ and promoter Andy Newcombe, lived and worked in Japan for three years, said "to sit and watch this catastrophic disaster live and do nothing is just not an option. Having spent a lot of time in Sendai City and Miyagi Prefecture over the past 15 years and made lots of close friends there I had to do something to help.”

Two charities have been selected to receive money raised from the appeal. The first is Japan Red Cross and secondly for online donations to GlobalGiving who are working with the International Medical Corps, Save the Children, and other organizations on the ground in Japan.
All DJs have donated their time for free and have a strong tie to Japan through touring, fans, family and friends.
