- Why do Caribbean Nations Support Japanese Whaling? -

It has been said that Japan is buying votes in the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to increase the number of the countries who support Japanese whaling in return for Japan's financial aid to developing countries in the Caribbean, Pacific and Africa.

Before the IWC is held in Alaska in the end of this month, Greenpeace is hosting a seminar inviting Mr. Atherton Martin. Mr Martin is the former Minister of Agriculture, Planning and the Environment of Dominica, who resigned his position in 2000 while he was attending the IWC as a Minister, because the government of Dominica stopped him voting for the Southern Hemisphere Whale Sanctuary proposal as a result of pressure from the Japanese Government.

In this seminar, we will explore the issue of the vote buying by sharing the experience of Mr. Martin as a Minister of Dominica.

The seminar will be interpreted for Japanese and English. And the admission is free of charge. If you are interested in the whaling issue,
