May the Art be with you.

Annie Aube (アニーオーブ)

It will be held on 12nd March- 17th April @ galeria de muerte.

Annie Aube, Her embroidery work was introduced in our gallery booth of 101Tokyo artfair for the first time in Japan in 2008 and have always received favorable receptions.
And at last, her solo show "Dangerous Curiosity" become held at galeria de muerte.
The show exhibits her latest embroidery works which featured the theme of "Bluebeard" mainly. We would be grateful if you would visit this show.
May the Art Be With You

"Bluebeard" (French: La Barbe bleue) is a French literary folktale written by Charles Perrault and is one of eight tales by the author first published by Barbin in Paris in January 1697 in Histoires ou Contes du temps passé. The tale tells the story of a violent nobleman in the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of one wife to avoid the fate of her predecessors. Gilles de Rais, a 15th-century artistocrat and prolific serial killer, has been suggested as the source for the character of Bluebeard as has Conomor the Accursed, an early Breton king. "The White Dove," "Mister Fox" and "Fitcher's Bird" are tales similar to "Bluebeard".

Artist Statement
As of late my work has focused on the medium of embroidery. Many of the pieces are of women in folklore and mythology. The reason that I chose embroidery as the vehicle for this theme is because I like the idea of Embroidery which is anti-pretty since the Victorian era embroidery has come to be associated with images of pretty flowers (this has not always been the case). There seems to be a sort of irony in Embroidery which is gruesome. Even though, during the Middle Ages it was more common. The scenes that I have chosen to illustrate are in some way or another violent. Fairy tales and Mythology are full of violent imagery, so I didn’t have to look far for the images which I chose to embroider. Most of the stories which I have chosen to embroider are obscure; I have for the most part stayed away from well known folktales.

Bio
Annie Aube, grew up as a pretty typical child of the 80's worshiping such super stars as, She-Ra, He-man, and Optimus Prime. Her days were mostly spent playing make believe in the woods behind her house with her younger brother and sister. As she grew older she slowly became more and more of a nerd, finding Lord of the Rings, Labyrinth, and Graphic Novels about Zombies. Now as the age of 28 she lives in Palmer, Alaska with her husband David Leonard and their two cats. Since finishing her degree in art, she spends much of her time embroidering, reading, hiking in the mountains or watching episodes of Sci Fi shows with her husband.
