Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisers, and Friends:
As the new Secretary-General it is my honor to invite you and your school to attend the tenth session of the University of California at Berkeley Model United Nations Conference to be held March 23-26, 2006 in the heart of San Francisco. The main principle of our conference is to make each delegate's experience as positive and enjoyable as possible. Through the decades of competing on the national MUN circuit and feedback from our last nine conferences, we have sculpted UCBMUNC 2005 into a conference with an extremely high standard of debate while enhancing levels of delegate comfort and fun. The diverse interests of our delegates and chairs combined with the extensive resources of one of the top research universities in the world yield the eleven carefully crafted committees of UCBMUNC 2006. Our General Assembly, Economic and Social Council committees, and regional committees will discuss a wide range of issues, from security to human rights and development, each topic innovative and new to the MUN circuit.

Meanwhile, our crisis committees and the Security Council will test delegates' knowledge of area-specific politics while forcing them to react to well-researched, realistic crises. This year, we will host a Security Council and a reformed Security Council simultaneously with the same topics to explore the potential effects of UN reforms being discussed. Finally, the fast-paced action and creativity of our Executive Committee will challenge even the most experienced delegates on the MUN circuit. Rest assured that UCBMUNC will do everything possible to prepare each and every delegate for our committees.

We at UCBMUNC understand that a Model UN conference is not simply a forum for debate but an opportunity for social interaction. Our Friday and Saturday night socials have become famous around the MUN circuit. Complemented by our friendly staff and social atmosphere of San Francisco, UCBMUNC is the ideal place to build life-long friendships.
Five years ago, in response to the increasing popularity and distinguished reputation of our conference, we moved from our humble Berkeley beginnings to a major San Francisco hotel. As the city where the Charter of the United Nations was drafted and signed in 1945, San Francisco will provide more than enough activities for our delegates, day or night.
Our staff is dedicated to making every single delegate as happy as possible. Our goal is an educational, enjoyable, friendly conference, where debate in committee is of the highest caliber, and delegates are making friends and having fun outside of committee. We are always more than willing to incorporate your suggestions into our conference so that we may make UCBMUNC 2006 the best that it can be.
