Riko Tanaka (tabla) and Minehiko Tanaka (sitar) will perform at Ogaki Betsuin, a temple in central Ogaki (~10 min. walk from Ogaki JR Station, South Exit). I talked to the organizer today, and he said that this is a very special opportunity because these accomplished musicians have offered to perform for a very low price! Don't let this concert pass you by folks!
"Minehiko Tanaka began Sitar in 1983 after discovering the rich musicality and improvisational possibilities of North Indian classical music. Moving to Calcutta in 1988, he pursued his studies under the esteemed Amit Roy, a disciple of the late master, Pt. Nikhil Banerjee.
Since that time, he has performed widely, winning acclaim for both the sensitivity and passion in his playing.
Along with classical Indian music, Tanaka has also established an original style which transcends India, reflecting both his own Japanese roots and Asia as a whole.
Numerous compositions for solo and ensemble performance, as well as theatre and dance collaborations, show his unique blending of traditional scales and phrasing with eastern melodies and western harmonies."
